2019 South East Asia Golf Cruise

2019 Thailand, Vietnam & Hong Kong Golf Cruise

15 Nights | 6 Rounds | Singapore to Hong Kong | March 29 – April 13 2019

PerryGolf is proud to partner with Azamara Club Cruises for an exceptional golf voyage to some of the most fascinating areas of South East Asia onboard the outstanding 690 guest Azamara Quest. Our itinerary begins in dynamic Singapore, takes us northwards to the beautiful Thai island of Ko Samui, before continuing to Bangkok, ... Read More.

considered the “Venice of the East” where we enjoy two and a half days. We then sail the length of Vietnam with suitably unhurried stops in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Halong Bay before arriving into world renowned Hong Kong. Our schedule also includes three relaxing days at sea, perfectly spread throughout the voyage.

Our six round golf lineup will also most certainly not disappoint. This region sets some very high standards with Thailand and Vietnam now justifiably being recognized via various awards for their exceptional venues and the quality of their overall golf experience, and our itinerary takes us to the very best of them. In Bangkok we play Riverdale and Thai Country Club. In Vietnam our stops are at Tan Son Nhat and Danang Golf Club, plus the most eagerly awaited new golf course in the region LC Golf Links Halong Bay which overlooks the iconic bay. Our final round on arrival into Hong Kong will be the spectacular Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club.

Back on board you will be able to enjoy the facilities of Azamara Quest, in the company of a PerryGolf guest list which typically brings together like-minded individuals sharing a love of golf. Inevitably many new friendships are formed. Many guests are golfing couples but an equal number are golfers travelling with a non-golfing spouse. The latter are also exceptionally well catered for as, in addition to the fabulous onboard facilities, a wide selection of Azamara Land Discoveries® are offered in each port. On board, our guests are absolutely spoiled. Azamara Quest is small enough to provide a most intimate experience and nimble enough to access smaller ports, but large enough to provide a great choice of outstanding dining and bars; the ship also offers an exceptional full service spa, and features excellent and varied evening entertainment. In addition to all “normal” cruise features, Azamara Club Cruises include all soft drinks, specialty coffees, boutique daily wines, and a choice of select standard beers and cocktails within the cruise fare, plus all gratuities to create a thoroughly all-inclusive cruise experience. Just read what our past guests say. We know you will love it! Read Less

Overnight: At Sea

MARCH 30, SATURDAY: AT SEA

A day at sea. No golf. No sightseeing. No worries. Here’s your chance to reset with the help of four restaurants plus cafes and lounges, a pool, sun decks, a spa, fitness center, jogging track, hair salon, shops, casino and cabaret lounge. Azamara’s clubhouse style ambience provides a hybrid of luxury and big-ship cruising with every amenity presented in an intimate setting with superb service. Note that the best cocktails are found along with the best views on Deck 10 in the Looking Glass Lounge where you can admire the Murano glass and gaze out the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Overnight: At Sea

MARCH 31, SUNDAY: KO SAMUI, THAILAND (8:00AM / 2:00PM)

Ko Samui is an island located off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus. The province is the second largest island in Thailand; second in size only to Phuket; and with a population of over 63,000. This idyllic island is abundant in picture-perfect sandy beaches, beautiful coral reefs and lush coconut trees. There is a vast variety of interesting things to do which range from magnificent natural attractions such as the famous grandma (Tai) and grandpa (Yai) rock formations to man-made wonders such as mummified monks and the Big Buddha.

Enjoy Ko Samui on your own or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

APRIL 1, MONDAY: BANGKOK (KLONG TOEY), THAILAND (8:00AM / IN PORT)

Bangkok is a city steeped in contrast. Gold-spired temples share space with the neon glow of red light areas; climate controlled mega-malls sit across the street from ramshackle street markets; and everywhere you look carts serving incredible dishes sit in the shadows of white-linen restaurants. But it’s this very juxtaposition that gives Bangkok such a lively pulse and element of sà-ù—fun. And the food. We haven’t even touched on Bangkok’s full-flavored, insatiable, and borderline fanatical approach to eating. From humble noodle bowls from street vendors to international cuisine and everything in between, bring an appetite and a sense of adventure when you explore the streets in this foodie paradise.

Enjoy Bangkok on your own or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

GOLF: Riverdale Golf Club. Designed by Jonathan Morrow and Al Tikkanen, and like Red Mountain their other high-profile Phuket golf course, Riverdale Golf Club has quickly become one of the most highly regarded course in Bangkok. The landscape includes several large lakes which were dredged to create the hills that surround the golf course and frame most of the holes. Once you've fired your opening tee-shot at the gently sloping downhill opener, the challenges and considerable charm of these immaculately groomed links quickly assert themselves.

Overnight: In Port – Bangkok, Thailand

APRIL 2, TUESDAY: BANGKOK (KLONG TOEY), THAILAND (IN PORT)

Enjoy another full day in Bangkok.

GOLF: Today play at Thai Country Club, a prestigious member’s course and generally considered to the best in Bangkok. Thai County played host to the 1997 Asian Honda Classic won by Tiger Woods and continues to regularly host professional events. Its immaculate presentation and conditioning, coupled with a very strong palm-lined layout, ensures Thai Country Club is regularly voted in Asia’s top 5.

Overnight: In Port – Bangkok, Thailand

APRIL 3, WEDNESDAY: BANGKOK (KLONG TOEY), THAILAND (IN PORT / 3:00PM)

Enjoy a relaxed third day in Bangkok.

Overnight: In Port – Hi Chi Minh City, Vietnam

APRIL 5, FRIDAY: HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM (12:00PM / IN PORT)

Whether you call it Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City, this charming port by any other name would still be as sweet. There’s an infectious energy on the streets at all hours of the day and in nightclubs that don’t really start hopping until well after midnight. Vietnam’s largest city, HCMC—as the locals refer to it—is filled with French colonial architecture and Asian influences, creating a truly unique destination. Many of the traditional French-style homes have been converted into trendy restaurants serving Vietnamese cuisine. Be sure to try the Bahn Mi—this ubiquitous sandwich is served on French-style baguette with Vietnamese ingredients like lemon grass chicken and pickled daikon and is the ultimate form of fusion cuisine.

Enjoy Ho Chi Minh City on your own or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

Port Explorer Guide – Ho Chi Minh City

GOLF: Tan Son Nhat Golf Course was built to meet the increasing demand from city residents and international visitors. Nelson & Haworth Golf Course Architects have designed a top course out of the relatively flat landscape, with earth mounding, hazards, bunkers, and undulating greens a feature of every hole. Paspalum turf has been used throughout and ensures top year-round playing conditions. Our guests will play their second nine today under floodlights, an experience which Asia does exceptionally well and which will most definitely not disappoint.

APRIL 8, MONDAY: HUE (DA NANG), VIETNAM (8:00AM / 6:00PM)

Vietnam’s third largest city, Da Nang is the perfect base for day trips to both imperial Hue and charming Hoi An, two vastly different but equally worth-a-visit destinations.

Perched on the picturesque Perfume River, the main attraction in Hue is its immense imperial city, a sprawling complex of temples, pavilions, moats, shops, museums, and galleries that was modeled after Beijing’s forbidden city. In contrast, Hoi An is a graceful small town with a UNESCO World Heritage Site old town filled with two-story shop houses featuring elaborately carved wooden facades—a leftover from its past as an international trading port and marketplace. Hit the streets with two feet and a heartbeat to discover the many charms of Hoi An. Fashionistas will want to visit the shops—more than 600 clothing stores can be found in this small area.

Enjoy Da Nang on your own or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

Port Explorer Guide – Da Nang

GOLF: Da Nang Golf Club. Reminiscent of both Scottish links golf and Carolina sand hills golf, Greg Norman has created what is rated by many to be Vietnam’s best course. It is situated on the central coast of Vietnam amid 150 hectares of dunescape. It most notable features are blown-out bunkers, firm and fast fairways that bleed gently into wild seaside vegetation, rugged waste areas, swales and hollows with its signature hole the stunning, par-3 16th hole – back-dropped by traditional, long-tail fishing boats that troll the warm waters of the East Sea.

Overnight: At Sea

APRIL 9, TUESDAY: HALONG BAY, VIETNAM (1:00PM / IN PORT)

Halong Bay is truly iconic. Its beauty is undeniable when cruising the calm waters through the limestone islets…from here Vietnamese life is visible in its truly unspoiled and traditional form. In 2000, the UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee included Ha Long Bay in their official list documenting its inimitable illustrations of important stages of the Earth’s history and its original limestone geomorphologic landscape. Local families are sustained through fishing and will often wave from their floating homes as tourists sail by.

Halong Bay is home to the beautiful and quiet area of Bai Tu Long Bay which contains one of the largest fishing villages on the Bay; Cua Van Fishing Village. In 1991 a scene of the French movie INDOCHINE was filmed on the Bay. The film was about the life of a French woman who lived in Vietnam during the French domination in Indochina from mid-19th to mid-20th century.

Overnight: At Anchor – Halong Bay, Vietnam

APRIL 10, WEDNESDAY: HALONG BAY, VIETNAM (IN PORT / 8:00PM)

A chance to enjoy a full day in the wonderful Halong Bay area.

Enjoy Halong Bay on your own or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

Port Explorer Guide – Halong Bay

GOLF: LC Golf Links Halong Bay. PerryGolf guests will be amongst the first to savor this highly anticipated world-class golf course perched above the old town of Halong, and overlooking the spectacular and iconic limestone karst-riddled Halong Bay. With four holes directly facing the bay and others ridging a steep valley, the golf course will provide something golfers dream about but rarely find: views to die for, playability without being severely penal, and a year-round playing climate – this promises to be an outstanding day.

APRIL 12, FRIDAY: HONG KONG, CHINA (8:00AM/ IN PORT)

When you travel to Hong Kong, don’t forget to look up—way up— to see the 1,223 skyscrapers here (more than any other city in the world, if you’re counting). Just don’t try to find the fourth floor in any; the number is very similar to the Cantonese word for “die” so most buildings simply omit any floors that contain the number. For the best view of the iconic skyline, take a tram to the wok-shaped Peak Tower high atop Victoria Peak, which is also one of Hong Kong’s most exclusive neighborhoods. Better still, hop on the tram between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan for a cost-effective and authentic city-tour.

And if all that gazing and exploring has left you feeling peckish, Hong Kong is a foodie’s dream. Michelin-starred restaurants share walls with tiny dim-sum kitchens. But some of the most delicious morsels like curry fish meatballs, fried squid, and egg waffles can be found sizzling at one of the many street food vendors.

Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club is found less than an hour south of Hong Kong on a spectacular setting atop the Clear Water Bay Peninsula in the South China Sea. Opened in 1982, it underwent a major renovation ten years later which established this private club with 3,000 international members as one of the finest in the region. It is a demanding 6,600 par 70 because of the wind and elevation changes. The two nines are distant cousins. The front is short with no par four longer than 400 yards. The fours on the back nine are beastly: No. 10 is 468 yards, No. 12 is 460, No. 13 is 454 yards!

Golf Schedule

Almouj Golf Club: Muscat, OmanAlmouj Golf Course

Almouj Golf Club was designed by Greg Norman, who has captured the essence of the surrounding environment and enhanced it to produce a delightful links style course that runs alongside over two kilometres of beach. Norman and his design team were mindful of maintaining the panorama of the breathtaking views of the Sea of Oman ocean and the spectacular vista of the Hajar Mountains which on a clear day you almost feel as if you can touch.

Royal Golf Club Bahrain: Al-Manama, BahrainThe Royal Country ClubVideo

Royal Golf Club Bahrain was designed by Colin Montgomerie and hosted the European Tour’s inaugural Volvo Golf Champions tournament in January 2011. The Montgomerie championship course offers a unique blend of links and desert golf, taking advantage of Bahrain’s natural rough desert terrain and combining it with vast manmade lakes. The desert feel is retained through the use of sandy waste bunkers and the attractive indigenous vegetation and grasses used in the landscaping. The rolling links-style fairways and undulating greens are immaculately maintained.

Doha Golf Club: Doha, QatarYas Links

Doha Golf Club is the proud home of the European Tour’s annual Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. Nothing reflects the natural beauty and diverse landscape of Qatar more than Doha Golf Club. Designed by Peter Harradine and unveiled in 1997, the golf course provides a variety of challenges that appeal to both the novice golfer and the seasoned professional. Eight strategically positioned lakes, many giant cacti, numerous imposing limestone rock formations and an abundance of lush and lengthy green fairways present a startling contrast to the desert that lies beyond.

Yas Links: Abu Dhabi, UAEYas Links

Yas Links was designed by renowned course designer Kyle Phillips. Built on Yas Island, the course was almost 3 years in construction and used 2 million cubic metres of dredged sand to cap the land. Despite its relatively young age, Yas Links is proving to be one of the best courses in the region. Situated just across the highway from the Yas Marina Formula 1 track, the course utilizes the natural surroundings and weather conditions to create a truly wonderful links test that will excite all levels of golfers.

Emirates Golf Club, Majlis Course: Dubai, UAEEmirates Golf Club, Majlis Course

Emirates Golf Club, Majlis Course is annual home to the European Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic, and enjoys a worthy reputation worldwide as an excellent layour. The course features hundreds of indigenous species of flora and fauna, beautifully complemented by meandering fairways and seven fresh and saltwater lakes. The Majlis which was the first grass course in the Middle East takes its name from the Arabic word for 'meeting place'. One of the most prominent features on the course is the Majlis building itself positioned between the 8th and 9th holes and a Dubai landmark since 1988.
