  • Fri, Aug 15Edinburgh (Leith) Dumbarnie

Today play Dumbarnie Links the dramatic and exciting new kid on the Scottish golf landscape. Located 9 miles south of St Andrews, the layout plays over 345 acres, part of the 5,000-acre Balcarres Estate held by Lord Anthony Balniel and his family since the 16th century. Designed by Clive Clark, a member of the 1973 Great Britain and Ireland Ryder Cup team, the site is highlighted by a mile and a half of sea frontage featuring panoramic views over the Firth of Forth. Its dual elevations, which are connected by a flowing escarpment, provide a number of elevated tees where holes play directly towards the sea.

Edinburgh - the inspiring capital of Scotland - is a historic, cosmopolitan and cultured city. The setting is striking; a city perched on a series of extinct volcanoes and rocky crags which rise from the generally flat landscape of the Lothians with the sheltered shoreline of the Firth of Forth to the north. Edinburgh Castle dominates the city-center and from its ramparts you can look down on medieval lanes that hold over a thousand years of history, mystery and tradition. You will also see a modern, dynamic capital where international festivals attract the world's leading performers, galleries display cutting-edge art, and bars, restaurants and clubs create a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere with a distinctly Scottish twist. No visit to Edinburgh would be complete without a walk up the Royal Mile, which stretches from the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen's official residence in Scotland, to Edinburgh Castle. The route is lined with tourist shops and pubs but be sure to explore the narrow alleys called closes that lead off the Royal Mile.

Enjoy Edinburgh on your own or via Azamara Shore Excursions®.

In Port – Edinburgh (Leith), Scotland

  • Sat, Aug 16Edinburgh (Leith)

Enjoy another full day in Scotland’s beautiful capital city!

  • Sun, Aug 17Aberdeen Trump International

Today play Trump International Golf Links. Imagine Dr Martin Hawtree’s delight, the third-generation golf course architect with many achievement to his credit including his service as the R&A’s go-to for modifying Open venues, when he was chosen to design the newest links course in Scotland this century along a spectacular 3-mile stretch of North Sea coastline, with almost unlimited resources. Trump International Golf Links may represent his finest hour. The round combines high ground with striking views before descending into secluded valleys between monstrous dunes. It is a sight to behold.

The harbor city of Aberdeen sits by the North Sea, located between the rivers Dee and Don. Remote and northerly, Scotland’s third largest city is a surprising gem with distinctive architecture and a cosmopolitan feel. Aberdeen stands apart from other Scottish cities. You won’t hear Gaelic around these parts, as this bright sunny port more closely resembles a typical English city. Walk the bustling, mile-long Union Street to peruse high-street shops and venture into local independent stores. Explore the spirit of Aberdeen’s maritime history in Footdee - a traditional fishing village full of quirky outbuildings - or one of the many local museums.

Enjoy Aberdeen on your own or via Azamara Shore Excursions®.

  • Mon, Aug 18Invergordon Royal Dornoch

Today play Royal Dornoch. The curving bay of the Dornoch Firth and its magnificent white broad beaches are backed by a narrow strip of softly contoured dune land rising in two distinctive levels, providing just enough room for parallel fairways. The ridges, hillocks, dunes and undulating links land have all the characters of the best of links courses, and most of the difficulties. Old Tom Morris was the architect responsible for extending the original 9 holes layout to 18 holes in 1886. He introduced the plateau greens which are the soul of the course, their uniqueness lies in their size and their inverted saucer shapes.

Invergordon is the deep-water port for Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands and your gateway to an area of the Highlands known as the “Great Glen.” Travel 20 miles north to the picturesque town of Dornoch to see its sandstone buildings, beautiful domestic gardens and tiny 13th Century cathedral. Ten miles further you’ll find the fairy-tale ancestral home of the Clan Sutherland – Dunrobin Castle – one of the oldest inhabited houses in Scotland, dating back to the 13th century. The stunning formal gardens which run down to the sea are based on those at Versailles and were laid out in the 1850s. Daily displays of the ancient sport of falconry take place in the gardens. Less than an hour south is magnificent Cawdor Castle, the setting for setting for Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The 14th century home of the Thanes of Cawdor is considered one of the most romantic stately homes in the Highlands with its fine collection of rare tapestries, portraits and furniture plus lovely gardens and grounds.

  • Tues, Aug 19Lerwick

Enjoy a leisurely morning at sea before lunchtime arrival in Lerwick.

Nearly 600 miles north of London is Shetland, Britain’s most northerly territory found due west of Norway. The only town in this archipelago of more than 100 islands and fewer than 8,000 inhabitants is the port of Lerwick. This might not be where you’d expect to find charming shops, lively pubs and visiting yachts, but you will. There is an old town and a new town both easy to walk. The Shetland Museum & Archives is an award winning attraction in the heart of town on Hay’s Dock. On the outskirts, see what the Iron Age looks like at Clickimin Broch, a stone-built round house found only in Scotland.

  • Wed, Aug 20Kirkwall Orkney Golf Club*

Orkney Golf Club is situated on the outskirts of Kirkwall, and is the oldest in the Orkney Islands, having been founded in 1889. This local community club offers a sporting and fun layout of just under 6,000 yards long, and boasts beautiful panoramic views over the Northern Isles, and the town of Kirkwall. Please note, no golf carts or caddies available. Guests will use pull/push carts at this easy-walking venue.

The 70 islands of Orkney are low lying, a pleasing, gently rolling panorama of fertile fields, heather cloaked moors, and lakes. The red sandstone walls of the imposing St. Magnus Cathedral dominate Kirkwall, the main town, capital, and hub for roads linking east and west. In summer whales and dolphins sport in coastal waters, and tens of thousands of breeding seabirds congregate on sharp seaside cliffs. The early arrival of mankind on this scene can be investigated at Skara Brae, an amazingly well-preserved Neolithic village that was inhabited and already abandoned more than 5,000 years ago.

  • Thurs, Aug 21Stornoway

Colorful row houses and red-hulled fishing vessels line the shores of the picturesque port set on the edge of the Outer Hebrides. Listen to the lilt of locals as you dine on fresh-caught seafood and delectable Stornoway smoked salmon. Adventurous palates may also seek out the local delicacy of Stornoway Black Pudding to pair with a strong pint of ale from the Hebridean Brewing Company. Stroll the streets surrounding the harbor to peruse the largest selection of shops outside of the mainland. The gateway to Lewis and Harris Island, Stornoway is a short journey to a natural wonderland of mountains, craggy rocks, moorlands, meadows, and rugged coastlines. Explore the grounds of historic Lews Castle. Walk the hallowed grounds surrounding the ancient Callanish Stones. Watch as skilled craftsmen produce Harris Tweed, a luxury handwoven wool unique to the Island.

  • Fri, Aug 22Oban

Under the craggy emerald peaks of the Scottish Highlands lies a tiny port town with a heart for adventure. Gaelic for “little bay”, Oban is a captivating getaway that fulfils your every dream of Scotland. Dubbed both the Gateway to the Isles and the sea kayaking capital of Scotland; kayaking, boating, and other outdoor endeavours are within easy reach of Oban.

The backdrop to both historic and fictional scenes, Oban’s breath-taking landscape has played a key role in some of history’s most famous moments. Explore the magnificent Inveraray Castle, the former home to the Duke of Argyll. Look familiar? This vision in Gothic Revival architecture can also be seen on the popular show Downtown Abbey as the fictional “Duneagle Castle”.

  • Sat, Aug 23Glasgow (Greenock) Ailsa Turnberry

Today play the Ailsa Course at Turnberry. Lying on a spectacular curve of rockbound coast, the coastal scenery is magnificent especially from the 4th through the 11th. No one can forget the 1977 'Duel in the Sun' between Jack Nicklaus & Tom Watson when Watson's weekend of 65-65 edged Nicklaus by one. In 2009, the Ailsa Course hosted The Open for the 4th time when Tom Watson almost clinched the championship as a 59-year-old, losing out to Stewart Cink in a playoff for the famed Claret Jug. A major renovation was completed in 2016 which produced an impressive improvement in the club's already prominent world rankings.

Glasgow, a reinvented industrial center in western Scotland, has solidified its reputation as a cultural hub. Charles Rennie Mackintosh is one of the first names to know; he was a prodigious architect, interior designer and artist, and the city has a wealth of his work. Stop by his Willow Tea Rooms for a cup of tea and a scone. The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum whose blue and gold inlaid ceiling, Art Deco hanging lamps and marble floors are sufficient reason to visit, let alone the impressive art collection that includes Salvador Dal's controversial 'Christ of St John of the Cross'. Glasgow has an abundance of excellent seafood dining. The oyster bar at Rogano in Exchange Square is where power brokers celebrate deals with a glass of Champagne and a dozen oysters in a space designed to look like a 1930s Art Deco cruise liner. At the Pot Still, an institution that dates from 1857, choose from over 450 malt whiskies like Lagavulin or Arran.

  • Sun, Aug 24Douglas

The tiny Isle of Man is filled with entertaining sights and scenery. Douglas' lovely seafront is lined with picturesque hotels and restaurants and can be traversed by horse-drawn trams as it has been since 1876. There's a medieval fortress in Castletown; a ruined castle on the Isle of St. Patrick where tales of Vikings, monks, and a ghost dog abound; and the village of Cregneash, where people live in thatched cottages, speak the native Manx language, and practice traditional trades and crafts. Front gardens on residential streets are a standout, awash in colour and scent.

  • Mon, Aug 25Disembark Dublin, Ireland

    Disembark Azamara Journey at 9:00AM.

Dublin offers a wealth of historic sites dating back to a 1000-year-old Viking village, and as one might expect of the Irish, there is a tale to be told about everyone. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is said to have been erected on the site where the saint himself converted pagans in 450 AD. The crown jewels were stolen from Dublin Castle in 1907; an unsolved mystery left to the fictional Sherlock Holmes to decipher. Some pubs, great sources of stories, are almost as old – you can sample a Guinness and the latest lore at The Brazen Head, serving up drink and daydreams for 800 years.

*Play is walking with caddies throughout, with exception of Orkney - no caddies.

Certain walking courses may allow golf cart usage with advance notice of an appropriate handicap certificate. Contact your Golf Travel Expert for details

FAQs

  • What is PerryGolf's Golf Cruise background?

We have operated golf cruises since 1997 on a variety of vessels with the expertise developed providing custom land tours since 1984. In 2011 we offered our first golf cruises with Azamara® whose fleet of 4 ocean liners have proven ideal for the purpose. Their fleet of boutique hotels at sea for less than 700 guests are large enough to offer every amenity yet small enough to navigate smaller harbors for premium docking space. Today we are delighted to partner exclusively with Azamara for our year-round schedule of worldwide golf cruises.

  • Where do the golf cruises operate?

Our current portfolio includes voyages to the British Isles, the Baltic Sea, Norway, the Mediterranean, Australia & New Zealand plus South Africa.

The highest profile of these is our annual British Isles Cruise which combines attendance to the final weekend of The Open with play at collection of the finest and most revered golf courses of the British Isles.

While our golf cruise roster varies, as do the golf courses we visit, guests can expect to play many of the finest and best known courses around the world. Some of the venues which regularly feature in our cruises include:

    • Portmarnock
    • Royal Birkdale
    • Gleneagles
    • Royal Portrush
    • Royal County Down
    • Ailsa Course Turnberry
    • Royal Dornoch
    • Bro Hof Slot
    • The Estonian
    • Gorki Golf Club (Russia)
    • Valderrama
    • PGA Catalunya
    • Terre Blanche
    • Pevero
    • Yas Links
    • The Emirates
    • Kauri Cliffs
    • Cape Kidnappers
    • Jacks Point
    • New South Wales
    • Fancourt
    • Leopard Creek
    • Buenos Aires Golf Club
  • What format do the golf cruises follow?

Our golf cruises are a fully managed all-inclusive experience, delivered in a way that ensures exceptional guest satisfaction. All golf related arrangements and logistics are managed in advance and onsite by PerryGolf. Typically (although it varies dependent on individual itineraries), the golf cruise program will schedule golf on just over half of shore days, allowing golfers a balance of golf and sightseeing activities. Beyond golf, guests are free to explore on their own arrangements or via a variety of excellent shore excursion programs provided by our cruise partners. The ethos of the golf cruise program is to ensure the high level of service which guests enjoy onboard is extended to the golf experience off the ship. The program creates a stress free environment, allowing guests to relax and enjoy their cruise and the opportunity of playing some of the world’s finest and most memorable golfing venues, and to do so in the company of existing or like minded new found friends.

  • What is included in the price of the Golf Cruise?

Our golf cruises are as all-inclusive as it is possible to be. Onboard, all accommodations, meals, entertainment, open bar (selected beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks) and gratuities are included. Off the ship, all greens fees, cart fees (or caddies at certain venues – excludes caddie gratuity), ground transportation, range balls, box lunch, open bar at respective clubhouses and gratuities are included.

  • Should I take out travel insurance?

PerryGolf strongly recommends that you have luggage, accident and trip cancellation insurance. It is important for your own self-interest and protection that you make certain you have adequate coverage. Full details of the Travel Insurance that PerryGolf can make available to you is available here.

  • What is a typical golf cruise group size?

The typical group size is approximately 40 golfers, with on average a further 10 non-golfing spouses.

Our cruises that include attendance to The Open are larger with approximately 150 golfers and a further 50 non-golfing spouses.

Some guests join our cruises as relatively self contained groups, eg 2 or 4 couples who know each other, and they will have their own golfing partners already arranged. Other guests travel as individual couples or single travelers and are seeking to meet and play golf with other guests. We will arrange golf pairings for these guests and through this a great many friendships are born. Non-golfing spouses are also perfectly catered for with a range of shore excursions available.

  • What is a typical golf day?

We manage each guest’s golf equipment from start to finish. The equipment will be taken to the course in advance, loaded onto a golf cart (or be waiting with a caddie at certain venues) and be ready for each guest’s arrival.

Transfers from the ship are coordinated to ensure that each guest arrives at the golf course with ample time to warm up before play. A sandwich lunch is provided on the golf course, sometimes as a box lunch from the ship, or alternatively provided by the club. An open bar with snacks, soft drinks, beer or wine is always available during play, and the clubhouse bar operates similarly following play.

Following golf, guests are free to relax in the clubhouse to chat about their round and to experience the particular ambience before transferring back to the ship.

On one golf day during each cruise an informal competition will be held with prizes to be awarded in a ceremony taking place later onboard the ship.

  • Tell me more about the golf program.

Every aspect of the golf program is fully managed by PerryGolf staff onboard and ashore. Your clubs will be ready and waiting at each venue. Tee times and pairings arranged and posted in advance. A convenient transportation schedule affords suitable time to warm up at the range, and to make the almost inevitable pro shop merchandise purchase. Where available by the venue – refer to the Itinerary for details – caddies are included (excluding caddie gratuity) for all our guests. A friendly competition is staged at a selected course, with prizes awarded at our farewell gathering. A snack lunch is included on-course plus an open bar operates in the clubhouse at the conclusion of the round. Our typical British Isles Golf Cruise guest list which brings together like-minded individuals generally numbers around 120 (split over two golf courses at each port), with new friendships invariably formed during each cruise. Many guests are golfing couples but an equal number are golfers travelling with a non-golfing spouse. Specially arranged onboard golf group social functions, to which all accompanying non-golfing spouses are most warmly welcomed, further enhances the club-like environment. The award winning Azamara Shore Excursions® program, offering a wide variety of off ship excursions, also caters beautifully to our non-golfing guests during days when our golfing excursions are underway.

  • Tell me more about the ship.

The ship serves as our perfect floating boutique hotel and clubhouse, is a small-sized luxury vessel nimble enough to access smaller ports yet large enough to provide every amenity you would expect, from a choice of fine dining and live entertainment, to a well-equipped gym and full-service spa. Forty-four suites are available with English butler style service which routinely book early. Sailing schedules often include extended stays in port plus the occasional overnight which allows for a truly immersive experience. Better still, these cruises are inclusive of a selection of beers, spirits, soft drinks, bottled water, specialty coffees plus wine with lunch and dinner along with gratuities for housekeeping, dining and bar staff. Azamara also proudly boasts two unique signature events on each cruise – an AzAmazing Evening℠ and the White Night party – complimentary to all guests and consistently well received.
