  • Tues, Aug 26Dublin Jameson Links at Portmarnock*

Today play Jameson Links at Portmarnock Resort designed by Bernhard Langer and opened for play in 1995. As a three-time winner of the Irish Open at nearby Portmarnock Golf Club and The Royal Dublin Golf Club it was fitting that Langer chose this magnificent setting to design his first links course set in the grounds of the old Jameson Estate of St. Marnocks. The course has played host to professional and amateur events including 2008 and 2009 Ladies Irish Open. Note: Golf cart venue.

This is one of our two overnights in port (Belfast is the other) which you’ll appreciate because there is a lot to do in Dublin. A good place to begin is The National Museum of Ireland on Kildare Street for a well-designed archaeological collection featuring Bronze Age gold jewelry and Viking swords. The stars of the show are the “bog people” — preserved corpses of men who were killed (presumably sacrificed) and tossed into peat bogs during the Iron Age. The preservative qualities are remarkable. Dublin is home to St Patrick’s Cathedral of course but much of Ireland’s history can be read in Christ Church Cathedral, which dates back to circa 1030. Dublin’s booming culinary scene is found along Exchequer Street where The Green Hen has won many admirers with its combination of French atmosphere and Franco-Irish cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients. Try the pan-fried duck breast. Finally, while craft beer is certainly the popular new thing, a pint of “the black stuff” is still required drinking on any trip to Dublin. The Guinness Storehouse museum at the St. James’s Gate brewery explains how the stout is made and how to pull a proper pint at the correct 45-degree angle and waiting 119.5 seconds before topping it off.

  • Wed, Aug 27Warrenpoint

Bangor, Northern Ireland is a charming seaside town located in County Down, just 13 miles from Belfast. It offers a lovely blend of coastal beauty, rich history, and a relaxed local atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a stroll along Bangor Marina, one of the largest marinas in Ireland, where scenic views over Belfast Lough and a lively waterfront setting make for a memorable experience. Nearby, Bangor Castle and its beautifully maintained Walled Garden provide a peaceful retreat. The castle itself, a 19th-century mansion, is home to the North Down Museum, a small but fascinating space that highlights the area’s Viking roots and local heritage. Whether you're looking to explore history, enjoy scenic walks, or simply unwind by the sea, Bangor is a delightful stop.

  • Thurs, Aug 28Belfast Royal County Down

Today play Royal County Down. Located in the town of Newcastle to the south of Belfast. Consistently ranked in the top 10 courses in the world, this is a true test of links golf set against the magnificent backdrop of the Mountains of Mourne. Host to the 2007 Walker Cup Match featuring a young local by the name of Rory McIlroy, and an all-star USA line-up.

Belfast in the early 20th century had the largest and most productive shipyard in the world, gaining global renown with the launch of the RMS Titanic. Located on the slipways where she was built is a stunning new museum, opened in time for the 100th anniversary of Titanic’s only voyage and tragic demise. Today the city and riverfront are undergoing a 21st century transformation, but many exuberant Victorian and Edwardian buildings still sport the carved heads of kings and queens. As you explore the city, keep an eye out for “the murals.” These somewhat troubling freelance works appearing on building walls provide insight into the period known simply as “The Troubles.”

  • Fri, Aug 29Belfast Royal Portrush

Today play Royal Portrush. The 2025 host of The 153rd Open, It holds the distinction of being the only course in Ireland to have hosted The Open which, including 2025, it will have done three times. Royal Portrush returned to The Open rota in 2019 following a 70-year absence. The Dunluce Course is as fine a links as you will find anywhere, with the 5th being a particularly memorable hole to a green hanging on the edge of a cliff. Consistently ranked in the top 20 of the world's best courses.

A second day to enjoy Belfast!

The city of Derry, or Londonderry, is the second largest in Northern Ireland behind the capital, Belfast. Said to have been founded in the 6th century by Saint Colmcille (or St. Columba), Derry was renamed Londonderry in 1613 upon the award of its Royal Charter by King James I. Through the siege of the walled city in 1689 to its key strategic role in World War II, Derry has been influential in the shaping of the world around it. In 2013, it holds the honour of being the UK's first City of Culture.

  • Sun, Aug 31Donegal Donegal

Today play Donegal Golf Club, located on the Murvagh peninsula in South Donegal, which was originally designed by Eddie Hackett, a legend of Irish golf course architecture, and is often called the Muirfield of Ireland. Over the years the course has been re-molded by the "Master of Links design" Pat Ruddy. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Donegal Bay and a designated Special Area of Conservation, the panoramic views of Donegal Bay and the surrounding countryside are sensational and the peninsula itself is steeped in local and ancient history. It has been a regular host to national Irish events.

Described by National Geographic Traveler as the “Coolest Place on the Planet for 2017,” Donegal is a nature lover’s paradise, located at the mouth of River Elke in NW Ireland. Any visit here must include a self-guided tour at Donegal Castle, which was built in the 15th century and is adjacent to the town square, providing convenient access to shopping and dining options. While you’re there, pick up a jacket or cap made of Donegal Tweed, hand-woven and unique due to its pattern and heathered effect. Sitting on the outskirts of town, the ruins of The Abbey of the Four Masters overlook the water where the River Elke flows into Donegal Bay. Glenveagh National Park is a lush, green oasis. A few miles north of town admire the majestic cliffs of Sliabh Liag and take a comfortable walk around the scenic and serene Lough Eske.

  • Mon, Sep 1Galway

Galway sits on the west coast of Ireland where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. Start your day in the town hub of Eyre Square, a public park adjacent to a collection of shops and pubs where traditional Irish folk music provides the soundtrack during the afternoons and evenings. The Galway Cathedral is one of the largest and most impressive buildings in the city. This Roman Catholic church features a mosaic of U.S. President John F. Kennedy. The Spanish Arch, located on the River Corrib, was built in 1584. Those seeking something a little spookier might be interested in the Lynch Memorial Window, where in 1493 legend has it the town mayor hung his son for murdering a visitor.

  • Tues, Sep 2Foynes Ballybunion

Ballybunion Old is carved from the earth, amid the dunes beside the ocean and features dramatic changes in elevation. It’s the most famous links in Ireland, in part because American professional Tom Watson, the five-time Open Champion, professed his love for the layout when he hoisted the Claret Jug in 1982. A natural, elemental design it is cut from the same cloth as Pebble Beach or St. Andrews, courses that needed only slight refinement by the hand of men.

Foynes is a tiny village but a major port in County Limerick in midwest Ireland. While there are less than 1,000 residents, Foynes is home to the Flying Boat & Maritime Museum which features historical archives and interactive exhibits. Tour the only replica B-314 Flying Boat in the world, enjoy a panoramic view in the reinstated control tower and learn about the movie stars and celebrities who spent time here in the 1930s and 1940s. Also discover the village’s connection to the U.S. Civil War and discover the story behind the origin of Irish Coffee - enjoying a taste for yourself, of course.

  • Wed, Sep 3Bantry

Immortalized in a popular Irish folk song, Bantry Bay is one of Ireland’s most captivating seaside scenes. Tendering in Bantry Harbour within the Bay, you’ll have uninterrupted views of Whiddy Island and the postcard-perfect town of Bantry. Once ashore, hop on the ferry to Whiddy for a leisurely tour around the island by foot or by bike - easily done in a couple of hours. Be sure to stop by the lone pub on the island for a friendly welcome by the locals and some famous Irish craic (Gaelic for good times). Back in town, a visit to Bantry House is a must. It’s one of Ireland’s most elaborate, attractive great houses, with gorgeous gardens and an eclectic collection of artwork inside. The area’s natural beauty is matched only the warmth of its people. Explore nearby communities around the scenic Beara Peninsula and meet those that appreciate a slower pace, and value the good things in life. Stroll quartz-white beaches in Allihies. Discover mysterious ancient monuments in Eyeries. Feel the spray of Ireland’s highest waterfall in Adrigole. With endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, and heaps of attractions for history buffs, this gorgeous corner of Ireland’s west coast has something to suit every travel style.

  • Thurs, Sep 4Cork (Cobh) Old Head** / Fota Island*

    Two Golf Courses operate today;

Old Head is perched atop a cliff in a dramatic portion of Ireland, the links being one of the world’s most discussed courses as golfers appreciate not only its magnificent beauty but also the diverse strategic options in ever-changing winds. The par-5 No. 17, ‘Lighthouse’ requires golfers to challenge the rugged coastline - or play conservatively and deal with a blind approach. The home hole is a daunting dogleg left par-4 with trouble awaiting on both sides of the fairway. Old Head has limited availability and is played by our earliest-booking main program guests.

Fota Island Deerpark Course, located on a 780-acre island in Cork Harbour. Routed through mature woodlands and highlighted by pot bunkers and double greens with undulating slopes. The course was host venue to the PGA European Tour Irish Open in 2001 and 2002. Note: Golf cart venue. Fota is played by our guests not playing Old Head – reduced pricing applies.

Located on Ireland’s southeast coast in County Cork, the quaint seaside town of Cobh (old Irish for cove) is known for its great maritime heritage and seafaring history. As Ireland’s only dedicated cruise terminal, Cobh was the departure point for 2.5 million of the six million Irish people that immigrated to North America between 1848 and 1950. It remains a popular port of call today for cruise liners from all over the world in part due to the fact that Cobh was the last port of call for RMS Titanic. Cobh has remained largely unchanged since that fateful day in 1912 with brightly colored houses along streets that climb to the top of the hill which is crowned by the imposing Cobh Cathedral, St. Coleman's Cathedral with its carillon of 47 bells. On the waterfront there is a statue of Annie Moore who was the first person admitted to the United States through the new immigration center at Ellis Island on January 1, 1892.

FAQs

  • What is PerryGolf's Golf Cruise background?

We have operated golf cruises since 1997 on a variety of vessels with the expertise developed providing custom land tours since 1984. In 2011 we offered our first golf cruises with Azamara® whose fleet of 4 ocean liners have proven ideal for the purpose. Their fleet of boutique hotels at sea for less than 700 guests are large enough to offer every amenity yet small enough to navigate smaller harbors for premium docking space. Today we are delighted to partner exclusively with Azamara for our year-round schedule of worldwide golf cruises.

  • Where do the golf cruises operate?

Our current portfolio includes voyages to the British Isles, the Baltic Sea, Norway, the Mediterranean, Australia & New Zealand plus South Africa.

The highest profile of these is our annual British Isles Cruise which combines attendance to the final weekend of The Open with play at collection of the finest and most revered golf courses of the British Isles.

While our golf cruise roster varies, as do the golf courses we visit, guests can expect to play many of the finest and best known courses around the world. Some of the venues which regularly feature in our cruises include:

    • Portmarnock
    • Royal Birkdale
    • Gleneagles
    • Royal Portrush
    • Royal County Down
    • Ailsa Course Turnberry
    • Royal Dornoch
    • Bro Hof Slot
    • The Estonian
    • Gorki Golf Club (Russia)
    • Valderrama
    • PGA Catalunya
    • Terre Blanche
    • Pevero
    • Yas Links
    • The Emirates
    • Kauri Cliffs
    • Cape Kidnappers
    • Jacks Point
    • New South Wales
    • Fancourt
    • Leopard Creek
    • Buenos Aires Golf Club
  • What format do the golf cruises follow?

Our golf cruises are a fully managed all-inclusive experience, delivered in a way that ensures exceptional guest satisfaction. All golf related arrangements and logistics are managed in advance and onsite by PerryGolf. Typically (although it varies dependent on individual itineraries), the golf cruise program will schedule golf on just over half of shore days, allowing golfers a balance of golf and sightseeing activities. Beyond golf, guests are free to explore on their own arrangements or via a variety of excellent shore excursion programs provided by our cruise partners. The ethos of the golf cruise program is to ensure the high level of service which guests enjoy onboard is extended to the golf experience off the ship. The program creates a stress free environment, allowing guests to relax and enjoy their cruise and the opportunity of playing some of the world’s finest and most memorable golfing venues, and to do so in the company of existing or like minded new found friends.

  • What is included in the price of the Golf Cruise?

Our golf cruises are as all-inclusive as it is possible to be. Onboard, all accommodations, meals, entertainment, open bar (selected beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks) and gratuities are included. Off the ship, all greens fees, cart fees (or caddies at certain venues – excludes caddie gratuity), ground transportation, range balls, box lunch, open bar at respective clubhouses and gratuities are included.

  • Should I take out travel insurance?

PerryGolf strongly recommends that you have luggage, accident and trip cancellation insurance. It is important for your own self-interest and protection that you make certain you have adequate coverage. Full details of the Travel Insurance that PerryGolf can make available to you is available here.

  • What is a typical golf cruise group size?

The typical group size is approximately 40 golfers, with on average a further 10 non-golfing spouses.

Our cruises that include attendance to The Open are larger with approximately 150 golfers and a further 50 non-golfing spouses.

Some guests join our cruises as relatively self contained groups, eg 2 or 4 couples who know each other, and they will have their own golfing partners already arranged. Other guests travel as individual couples or single travelers and are seeking to meet and play golf with other guests. We will arrange golf pairings for these guests and through this a great many friendships are born. Non-golfing spouses are also perfectly catered for with a range of shore excursions available.

  • What is a typical golf day?

We manage each guest’s golf equipment from start to finish. The equipment will be taken to the course in advance, loaded onto a golf cart (or be waiting with a caddie at certain venues) and be ready for each guest’s arrival.

Transfers from the ship are coordinated to ensure that each guest arrives at the golf course with ample time to warm up before play. A sandwich lunch is provided on the golf course, sometimes as a box lunch from the ship, or alternatively provided by the club. An open bar with snacks, soft drinks, beer or wine is always available during play, and the clubhouse bar operates similarly following play.

Following golf, guests are free to relax in the clubhouse to chat about their round and to experience the particular ambience before transferring back to the ship.

On one golf day during each cruise an informal competition will be held with prizes to be awarded in a ceremony taking place later onboard the ship.

  • Tell me more about the golf program.

Every aspect of the golf program is fully managed by PerryGolf staff onboard and ashore. Your clubs will be ready and waiting at each venue. Tee times and pairings arranged and posted in advance. A convenient transportation schedule affords suitable time to warm up at the range, and to make the almost inevitable pro shop merchandise purchase. Where available by the venue – refer to the Itinerary for details – caddies are included (excluding caddie gratuity) for all our guests. A friendly competition is staged at a selected course, with prizes awarded at our farewell gathering. A snack lunch is included on-course plus an open bar operates in the clubhouse at the conclusion of the round. Our typical British Isles Golf Cruise guest list which brings together like-minded individuals generally numbers around 120 (split over two golf courses at each port), with new friendships invariably formed during each cruise. Many guests are golfing couples but an equal number are golfers travelling with a non-golfing spouse. Specially arranged onboard golf group social functions, to which all accompanying non-golfing spouses are most warmly welcomed, further enhances the club-like environment. The award winning Azamara Shore Excursions® program, offering a wide variety of off ship excursions, also caters beautifully to our non-golfing guests during days when our golfing excursions are underway.

  • Tell me more about the ship.

The ship serves as our perfect floating boutique hotel and clubhouse, is a small-sized luxury vessel nimble enough to access smaller ports yet large enough to provide every amenity you would expect, from a choice of fine dining and live entertainment, to a well-equipped gym and full-service spa. Forty-four suites are available with English butler style service which routinely book early. Sailing schedules often include extended stays in port plus the occasional overnight which allows for a truly immersive experience. Better still, these cruises are inclusive of a selection of beers, spirits, soft drinks, bottled water, specialty coffees plus wine with lunch and dinner along with gratuities for housekeeping, dining and bar staff. Azamara also proudly boasts two unique signature events on each cruise – an AzAmazing Evening℠ and the White Night party – complimentary to all guests and consistently well received.

  • Do you have any booking tips?
