Machrihanish

Found beside the Atlantic on the southern tip of the Kintyre Peninsula, Old Tom Morris had an early hand yet again on one of Scotland’s most beloved links.  There was a ten-hole layout here originally, but it was 1879 when Old Tom’s eighteen-hole layout opened.  His first hole is played to today from an elevated tee to a fairway angling diagonally way.  Carry as much of Machrihanish Bay as you dare but play too safe and 3 pot bunkers right of the fairway will turn this 424-yard par four into a five.  Its one of the most thrilling starts you’ll ever experience.   The entire layout is solid all of which is enhanced by its remoteness.  Golf pilgrims will find it well worth the journey.
