Your Itinerary

Lough Eske Castle traces its roots all the way back to the late 1400’s and the famous O’Donnell family that founded the nearby town of Donegal. The original castle was first built around 1474. A date stone of 1621 remains on the property to this day. The current Lough Eske Castle was constructed in the 1860s on the site of an old Brooke mansion, but was destroyed by fire in 1939. The renovated Lough Eske Castle stands as a continuing testament to the rich history of Lough Eske and the surrounding region. The Castle has two excellent restaurants Cedars Grill and The Gallery Bar, on site is also a fantastic spa. The Castle is in the ideal location to play Donegal Golf Course, which is only a 10 minute drive.

<Day 3 ~ Narin & Portnoo Golf Club

Play today at Narin & Portnoo (tbc) . The course is situated in the beautiful seaside resort of Portnoo in South West Donegal. It is considered to be one of the finest natural links courses in Ireland, and is certainly one of the most scenic with views out to Aranmore Island and Croghy Head. Under new ownership in 2018 the links has been upgraded with the project entrusted to Gil Hanse and his team.  The changes being implemented will elevate Narin & Portnoo into one of the finest links courses in the country.

The routing takes golfers on a journey through huge dunes, to high above Sheephaven Bay, along the coast, then back over some more gentle dunes.  With plenty of width and an eclectic mix of naturalised bunkers, the course is destined to become a must play.

<Day 5 ~ Co Sligo Golf Club

Play County Sligo Golf Club (tbc) at Rosses Point, annual host to the West of Ireland Championship and unquestionably one of Ireland's best golf courses. Donegal image

Dunes block the view of the Atlantic Ocean on many holes at Donegal, which is on the Murvagh Penninsula with the Bluestack Mountains in the background. However, the sound of waves crashing serves as the soundtrack for each swing. The inward loop is protected by those dunes, so take time to savor the view from the elevated tee at No. 8, a sensational par-5. The 2011 Open Champion Darren Clarke is a member here and labels the layout as one of his favorites.

The course is situated in the beautiful seaside resort of Portnoo in South West Donegal. County Sligo image

Breathtaking scenery and a phenomenal mix of golf holes blend nicely at County Sligo at Rosses Point. On the shores of Drumcliffe Bay, with the Ox Mountains in the distance, golfers play a course on rolling terrain that has challenged legends of the game from Byron Nelson to Rory McIlroy. The legendary American Tom Watson described the par-4 No. 14 as one of his favorites, while the strong quartet of par-3s aren’t overly long in distance but demand precise shots.

Carne image

Carne sits in splendid isolation along the Wild Atlantic Way on the west coast of Ireland, overlooking Blacksod Bay. Minimal earth was moved to create this links and it maintains a natural, beautiful appeal. Enjoy delightful views encompassing the Atlantic Ocean and white, sandy beaches while navigating your round. The finishing hole, “Log ‘A Fola” features an ancient burial ground to the right and ample opportunities to kill a promising round before reaching the green on the par-5 that measures 541 yards from the tips.

Enniscrone - The Dunes image

Set along the scenic west coast of Ireland in County Sligo on a promontory that juts into Killala Bay, the Dunes at Enniscrone is a true Irish links. Hackett used the natural contours and the majestic landscape to craft this design. Altogether, 12 of the 18 holes wind through the shaggy dunes that border the coast. The course culminates with a magnificent stretch of four holes running parallel to the Atlantic Ocean. A sharp bump-and-run game is useful here.
