<Day 2 ~ Castle Stuart Golf Links

Today play Castle Stuart (tbc). Once Kingsbarns opened, developer Mark Parsinen began his search for an encore.  He found it in the Highlands overlooking the Moray Firth less than ten miles from Inverness where he and Gil Hanse fashioned another modern links classic.  The first three holes on each nine run away from the clubhouse and along the water. The remaining six on each side play on top of the escarpment offering spectacular views on your way back to the exceptional clubhouse.  Castle Stuart is a true links course in every sense with revetted natural bunkers, waste bunkers, rumpled fairways and run-up greens.  This three-time host to the Scottish Open complements any visit to the Highlands.

Your Itinerary

Originally a Scottish mansion house, the Kingsmills Hotel is set in 4 acres of beautiful gardens and is just one mile from Inverness city centre. The hotel presents a seamless blend of style and substance, proud of a reputation for warmth of welcome, traditional values of service, yet, flexible to the needs of today's business executive. Rooms are spacious and if you need to work in your room, there’s plenty worktop space for papers and laptops and high speed wifi is available throughout. Fine foods from exciting menus sourced locally served in the restaurant or the garden conservatory are complimented by an excellent wine list and a large selection of single malt whiskies. In 2010 saw the opening of the stand alone Kingsclub and Spa. Small and very select with 37 bedrooms with a choice of Cocoon or Retreat luxury air-conditioned bedrooms, a beauty spa, mezzanine lounge, business centre, massage suites, relaxation area, nail salon, green space, golf course views, exclusive bar and restaurant all with a city centre location. In the club spirit the bar is exclusive to guests of The Kingsclub; informal and peaceful it's a cocktail before dinner or dissect the day's sucesses on the golf course. Jump on our golf buggy and relax over dinner in our Inglis Restaurant or Conservatory Brasserie in the Kingsmills Hotel.

<Day 3 ~ Royal Dornoch Golf Club

Golf today on Royal Dornoch (tbc).  An hour north of Inverness, along a crescent shaped stretch of the Dornoch Firth is a narrow strip of softly contoured dune land rising on two distinctive levels, providing just enough room for fairways framed by heather and gorse. It is here where Royal Dornoch was founded in 1877.  Old Tom Morris extended the layout to 18 holes in 1886 which has been modified over the years to produce a layout consistently ranked today among the world’s top 20.  MacKenzie & Ebert improved four holes and built a new 7th.  The club was Donald Ross’ famous inspiration for raised, domed greens.  A very limited supply of golf carts are available for hire. Certain restrictions may apply, please advise your Golf Travel Specialist.

<Day 4 ~ Nairn Golf Club

Play today at Nairn (tbc).  Nairn was among the first of the Highlands courses to make an international name for itself when it hosted the Walker Cup in 1999. It has gone on to host the British Amateur and the Curtis Cup.  Founded in 1887 on an elevated piece of linksland overlooking the Moray Firth, an all-star collection of architects have had a hand in the layout including Old Tom Morris and James Braid.  Most recently, the club commissioned MacKenzie & Ebert for a major modernization including numerous new greens, bunkers and tees.  The result capitalizes on what are some of the very best turf conditions in Scotland – a Nairn trademark.

<Day 5 ~ Carnoustie Golf Links

Today play Carnoustie  (tbc).  The first record of golf played on this links land dates to 1527.  In 1842, a 10-hole course was designed by Alan Robertson followed by an 18-hole course by Old Tom Morris in 1857.  James Braid extended the layout in 1926 which is essentially the links found today. While it is relatively flat, Carnoustie is exposed to the elements. A combination of length and accuracy are required as golfers face narrow corridors from the tee while approach shots demand precision to greens heavily guarded by steep bunkers and burns. Arguably the toughest finishing holes in championship golf are found here highlighted by the par-4, 476 yard 14th and the 245 yard par-3 16th. Ben Hogan won The 82nd Open at Carnoustie in 1953. Tom Watson and Gary Player also hoisted the Claret Jug here as has Padraig Harrington and mostly recently Francesco Molinari in 2018.

<Day 5 3 nights ~ Fairmont St Andrews

Your Itinerary

The 5-star Fairmont St Andrews is located on the outskirts of St Andrews along the road to Crail. Sitting on the summit of a spectacular cliff formation, the hotel and its two championship golf courses have breathtaking panoramic views of the River Tay estuary, the North Sea, the Fife countryside, and the medieval skyline of St Andrews. In addition to the two golf courses on site, you may enjoy the Spa, a haven of peace and tranquility. Enjoy a few easy lengths of the 18-metre pool, relax in the  Jacuzzi, sauna or steam room. Included in your rate is full WiFi internet access in the public rooms and guest bedrooms.

<Day 6 ~ Dumbarnie Links

Today play Dumbarnie Links (tbc).  Dumbarnie Links is one of Scotland’s newest links courses opened in 2020.  Located 9 miles south of St Andrews, the layout plays over 345 acres, part of the 5,000-acre Balcarres Estate held by Lord Anthony Balniel and his family since the 16th century.  Designed by Clive Clark, a member of the 1973 Great Britain and Ireland Ryder Cup team, the site is highlighted by a mile and a half of sea frontage featuring panoramic views over the Firth of Forth.  Its dual elevations, which are connected by a flowing escarpment, provide a number of elevated tees where holes play directly towards the sea. The design incorporates three potentially drivable par-4s along with several holes that present tempting risk/reward opportunities.  This course is designed to inspire rather than intimidate golfers.  Total yardage varies from 5,300 to 6,900 yards.

<Day 7 ~ Kingsbarns Golf Links

Today play Kingsbarns (tbc). Golf dates to a nine-hole layout here in 1793.  It was commandeered by the military during the Second World War not to reappear until Kyle Phillips took an interest in the late 1990s. His design ushered in the era of “modern classics” when it opened in 2000 looking like it had been there for years.  The terrain is links style perfection with tumbling fairways and sandy soil that produce the fine-bladed fescues which are the cornerstone of fast-and-firm playing surfaces that characterise links golf.  The fairways are spacious, the greens are large, exceptional views of the North Sea are found on every hole.
