GOLF: Today play Pinnacle Point. Magnificently perched atop staggering cliffs, this windswept course three hours east of Cape Town and a half hour south of George marks a major addition to South Africa’s already world-class golf scene. Six of the holes play across deep chasms to greens that seem to float in the Indian Ocean. The yawning ravines and distant horizons can make 150-yard shots look like twice that length. On the par-four eighth, tee and green sit on opposing bluffs; big hitters can attempt an all-or-nothing carry with the hope of having an easy wedge in or play it safe by bailing out left and facing a much longer approach. (Cart fee included)
SIGHTSEEING: Head down to Pinnacle Point with the golfers where you have the opportunity to explore the cave complex underneath this clifftop golf course. This guided tour of The Pinnacle Point Caves in Mossel Bay have revealed the world’s earliest evidence of man’s modern behaviour dating back 164 000 years ago. Discoveries in the system of 15 or more caves has been described as a huge step for mankind going back in history, as it was previously believed man’s complex thinking and behaviour dated back to 40 000 years ago in Eurasia.
