St. Andrews International Underway

It’s not like the Home of Golf needs another course but the more the merrier!  I read with great interest this week that work has officially started on the new St. Andrews International project located just outside the town.  With a planned opening date of spring 2015, there is a lot of work to be done, but let hope this provides yet another world class course to the area.  Further details of the story can be found here, with project details at the following link – http://www.standrewsigc.com/ .

Our second season with Cape Breton Island approaches with Stanley Thompson’s masterpiece at Highlands Links fully restored to its original excellence.  There is every expectation that World #98 (GOLF Magazine) will be rising in the rankings.

Last year’s newcomer and Canada’s only authentic links layout, Cabot Links, met every expectation to the point that co-owners Mike Keiser (Bandon Dunes) and Ben Cowan-Dewar have announced plans for a second course.  Cabot Cliffs will be designed by Coore and Crenshaw.  Keiser told Bill Coore during one of their recent site visits, “I think we’re on to something big here.”  We couldn’t agree more particularly considering the availability of four more Cape Breton courses we can recommend highly; Dundee, Bell Bay, The Lakes and Le Portage.

Trump International ~ 2nd Course

Donald Trump has just unveiled plans for a second course on the Balmedie Estate in Aberdeen.  The second course is to be called the Mary MacLeod Course after Trump’s Scottish born mother and will have the same designer (Martin Hawtree) who did a great job on the original course.   As yet, no timings are available, however further details can be found by clicking here.

Breakthrough for the Scottish Open

It was announced today that the Scottish Open is scheduled to be aired live on NBC this summer.  This is great news for the event and also for Castle Stuart Golf Links.

Castle Stuart in the Highlands will host the event for the 3rd consecutive year in July with a prime slot the week before the Open Championship at Muirfield.  Castle Stuart is still a young course – having opened its doors in 2009 – but it is already ranked 56th in the world.  It’s a ‘must play’ for anyone visiting the Highlands!

Rosapenna Development

Rosapenna has long been a favourite with PerryGolf clients looking to venture off the beaten track a bit more than usual.  They already have 2 great courses on site – Sandy Hills and the Old Course – but it now looks like they will have the option of another two 18 hole layouts for golfers to choose from having taken over St. Patrick’s Golf Links next door.  This is a further attraction for the North West which already boasts some great courses in Carne, Enniscrone, Co Sligo and Donegal and makes this area ideal for those looking to deviate from the better known courses.  It also offers very good value for money in these difficult times.   Click here to read on.
