SPOTLIGHT ON THE 133rd BRITISH OPEN ABOARD THE ROYAL SCOTSMAN JULY 12 - 19, 2004

The 133rd British Open returns to Scotland and one the world's most cherished venues - Royal Troon. The Open there in 1997 saw Justin Leonard give an emotional and heartfelt victory speech as he clutched the treasured Claret Jug, after making up five shots in a thrilling come from behind victory. Last year's final stretch filled with major champions and seasoned players, produced a surprise but worthy young winner in Ben Curtis, who will be back to defend his title and retain the Claret Jug.

If you've ever dreamed of watching the drama of golf's oldest championship unfold in person, 2004 is the perfect opportunity as PerryGolf is proud to announce the return of, one of our most elegant and beloved programs, traveling via The Royal Scotsman Train to some of Scotland's finest championship courses combined with attendance at the British Open.

The Royal ScotsmanTravel aboard The Royal Scotsman, with its enhanced Edwardian splendor, harkens back to the days when the method of transportation was as much a part of the experience as the destination itself. Hosting only 36 passengers, an aura of a jovial private party prevails throughout the journey.

Your adventure back in time to an era when luxury, civility and gracious hospitality, were synonymous with travel, begins in Edinburgh to the haunting sounds of a piper welcoming you aboard your sanctuary on rails for the next four nights.

Royal Scotsman Dining CarAfter freshening up in your elegantly appointed cabin, join the other guests for cocktails before sitting down to a scrumptious gourmet dinner, complemented by fine wines and champagnes at one of the two dining cars, recognized as one of Britain’s best restaurants, even though its location changes nightly!

The train stables every evening and only travels during the day. This ensures you not only will have pleasant dreams, but you won’t miss any of the stunning Scottish scenery along the way.

The best place to view that scenery is from The Observation Car where you can relax in the comfort of plush sofas or armchairs, or enjoy the panoramic vistas from the exhilarating open verandah platform. (Mere words do not do justice to the magnificence of this train, to take a virtual tour of The Royal Scotsman click here)

With all the pampering you will receive on the train, you may never want to get off, but the Scottish golf and sightseeing experiences planned for your journey will create lifetime memories in their own right.
