MEMO FROM HELENSBURGH
This year's Open Championship was
one of the most exciting in recent history and the
fantastic weather complemented the great leader board.
Well done to young Ben Curtis, we look forward to
his return to Royal Troon to defend his title in 2004.
It was speculated that this would
be the end of the Open rota for Royal
St George's, however, due to the fact that the
traffic flowed smoothly, the crowds broke records,
the sun shone, and the course proved a worthy adversary
to modern technology, look for The Open Championship
to return to this usually tranquil part of Kent in
the future. It also served to highlight an area rich
in golf history and championship courses, but often
overlooked in British Isles itineraries. In addition
to Royal St. George's other area courses that are
worthy of a stop include Royal Cinque Ports (Deal)
and Prince's, both former Open venues in 1920 and
1932 respectively; North Foreland, Walmer & Kingsdown,
Canterbury, Littlestone and Rye are all within an
hour of each other.
The Walker Cup early this September
showcased another English gem, this time an inland
course, with linksland turf and playing characteristics,
Ganton Golf Club. This Advisor presents an in depth
look at the course and the players, which make it
one of the best courses in Britain. With a former
Walker Cup player, Colin Dalgleish - 1981, right here
in the Helensburgh office, its no secret we were rooting
for the GB & I Team as they made it an unprecedented
three wins in a row this year! Also congratulations
to the European Solheim Team, as they won back the
Solheim Cup in convincing fashion. For the first time
in history Europe and GB & I hold the Walker,
Solheim & Ryder Cups at the same time!
Our 20th anniversary will be next
year, and we have assembled a stellar 2004
Grand Touring Portfolio to celebrate the occasion.
Each Advisor will take an in depth look at one of
the programmes, this issue showcases the return of
The
Royal Scotsman Train featuring a very special
itinerary to Gleneagles and the 133rd Open Championship
at Royal Troon. All of the 2004 programs may of course
be viewed at www.PerryGolf.com.
Next Advisor we will look in depth at the Mediterranean
Golf By Sea programme onboard the fabulous Sea
Dream II. We are just back from a preview cruise and
it was the experience of a lifetime! The excellent
service and amenities of the ship are so intoxicating
that its hard to leave to go ashore, even with the
stellar line up of Mediterranean courses featuring
Pevero, Sperone, and Royal Mougins that are as challenging
and unique, as they are visually stunning, and the
marvelous sightseeing itinerary that includes St.
Topez. Monte Carlo, Sardinia, Corsica and Rome!
We look forward to assisting all
of you in the near future in visiting favourite venues
or discovering new international golf destinations.
Good Golfing
