LETTER FROM ATLANTA

"Golf is a strange game. It enchants and aggravates, it flatters and disappoints, it rears up to the player to believe in his efficiency and then lets him down with a crash. It no sooner elevates its devotee than it dispirits him: it no sooner dispirits him than it elates him. That is the secret of its seductiveness, and at the back of it all is an illimitable vista of hope." Those words, by Harry Vardon, 6-time winner of the Open Championship and past Head Professional and course designer at Ganton Golf Club, still ring true in the heart of every golfer. This issue of the Advisor we take an in-depth look at Ganton Golf Club, a true inland British Isles classic championship course that played host to the 2003 Walker Cup Matches. Ranked #14 in the British Isles by Golf World, UK, and #62 in the world by Golf Magazine, although off the beaten path, it is a worthy addition to anyone's playing resume.

For those of you who have already made the journey to the British Isles this year, you know first hand how great the weather has been and that the courses are in magnificent condition. Ben Curtis hoisting the Claret Jug after his dramatic and unexpected win, Tom Watson recreating his magic on Turnberry's Ailsa course, and Annika Sorenstam's brilliant performance in capturing her career Grand Slam at Royal Lytham & St Annes highlighted on television for all of us here in the States a wonderful season of links golf overseas. The good news is its not too late to still make a trip across this year. Weather and course conditions should remain optimum at least throughout October.

If you are unable to journey to the 'Home of Golf' this year, we have some excellent programs and tools available to make planning your 2004 golf getaway easier.
