Kingsbarns Update

Kingsbarns golf linksKingbarns Golf Links, a PerryGolf client favorite, continues to receive accolades and awards. It recently debuted at the No. 13 spot on Golf World UK's Top 100 Courses of the British Isles, and was awarded the 2002 'Most Outstanding Golf Course' by the Scottish Incoming Golf Tour Operators Association. One reason it continues to grow its reputation is the desire of the management to continually improve their product and not rest on their laurels. Last year, The Advisor reported the improvements to the ninth green complex as a response to clients comments, The Advisor has just returned from St. Andrews and can say that the improvements made over last winter will again meet with client approval.

For those who have played Kingsbarns in the past, below is a recap of the Winter 2002 renovation work you'll recognize, and for those who have yet to play, the changes made are in keeping with the goal of providing a true quality links experience and the character of the existing course.

  • Re-shaped 7th green site and surround. The right-to-left slope was softened making the green more receptive. The left hollow was raised, increased in size, and generally made less gathering in nature.

  • Introduced a new bunker on the right side of the 11th fairway, helping to frame the hole from the tee more effectively; also revetted the bunkers on the left side of the fairway.

  • Revetted all the main bunkers on the 17th hole.

  • Lowered the back-middle portion of the 18th green, making certain putts more manageable; also widened and revetted the existing bunker at the back of the green, making it a more significant feature.
