NEWS FROM THE PERRYGOLF WORLD SCOTLAND
-- Good news for sore muscles, Turnberry is adding an additional
5 treatment rooms, bringing the total to 11, making it easier to get a massage
after your round next season. And to look your best, they are also adding a new
hair salon called Toni & Guy. The Academy Course, scheduled to open in April,
will be 9 holes over part of the site of the old Arran Course and will make a
perfect start to your golf vacation on the day of arrival.... On track to
open in August are 59 new bedrooms and 4 new function rooms at Gleneagles. The
Scottish PGA has also completed its Headquarters move to Gleneagles from its former
site at Larbert.... Enterkine
House, a beautiful country house set in 310 acres of grounds, woodlands and its
own valley, has recently been awarded 5 Star status by the Scottish Tourist Board.
This magnificent small hotel was built as a private house in the 1930's and has
only 6 bedrooms. It is conveniently located near seven championship courses, including
Turnberry, Troon and Western Gailes.... Those of you who were early visitors
to St. Andrews Bay, will notice some significant redecorating next season. Kittocks
Den Lounge, the Lobby area and the Atrium have all undergone a facelift with new
furnishings. The impressive new Devlin Course is scheduled for opening in July,
2002. This par 71, 7020 yard layout will provide a formidable test to golfers
of all levels. Designer Bruce Devlin and Gene Sarazen, who did original course
routings before his passing, used the breathtaking coastline as an intrinsic feature
of the layout which stretches over Kittocks Den. The Devlin course will also have
carts, good news for tired legs playing 36 holes a day. Also scheduled for opening
in July is the new clubhouse, serving both the Torrance and Devlin Courses. Sitting
astride Kingask Hill, with commanding views of both courses, St. Andrews Bay and
the town, this facility will feature a pro shop, conference room, driving range,
practice area and restaurant.... Myres Castle is steeped in history, situated
on 44 acres of its own grounds, enclosed by a high stone wall, on the edge of
the village of Auchtermuchty in northwest Fife, conveniently located to St. Andrews,
Kingsbarns. The castle is set on a rise with panoramic views from the battlements
over the surrounding countryside. The original Myres Castle was a Z-plan fortress
dating from around 1530. The castle has been altered and extended throughout the
years. They currently have nine double bedrooms all with en suite facilities.
The Castle has a wide range of activities, fishing, shooting and also includes
tennis courts. Although conveniently located to the major championship courses
by road, a helicopter program is also in place to allow visitors the maximum time
to enjoy the facilities. The food is freshly prepared with a strong Scottish flair
using the country's natural larder. Combined with the spectacular views, this
is an experience not to be missed.... The Dukes Course, owned by the Old Course
Hotel Golf Resort & Spa in St. Andrews announced that Sir Michael and Lady Bonallack
Have been named Captain & Lady captain for the upcoming season. Sir Michael is
the past Secretary of the R & A and one of the leading amateur golfers of all
times, winning five British Amateur Championships and playing on nine Walker Cup
teams. Lady Bonallack also has just as impressive a resume of amateur golf achievements,
playing on six Curtis Cups and holding two English Amateur Championships....
The Links Clubhouse kitchen has closed for renovations until March 2002, when
it will reopen and feature an expanded menu. Should you find yourself in St. Andrews
before March, the Eden clubhouse is still open to serve hungry golfers. IRELAND
-- The Killeen Course at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club
will close for play on June 1, 2002, when all 18 greens and tees will be completely
returfed. The new surfaces will be much improved on those currently in play and
the course will reopen in June 2003. Mahoney's Point will then close for a similar
period while the same work is carried out.... Druids Glen Golf Club will play
host this April to the 2002 Seve Trophy. Named after the fiery Spaniard, Severiano
Ballesteros, the great 5-time Major winner, the event is similar to the Ryder
Cup with a team from Continental Europe competing against a squad from Great Britain
and Ireland. Seve led his team to victory in the inaugural Seve Trophy held last
year at Sunningdale in England.... Congratulations to Aghadoe Heights Hotel
in Killarney, in September of this year the 5 Star property was awarded the prestigious
AA Irish Hotel of the Year Award for 2001/2002. The Hotel has also been recommended
by Egon Ronay, Michelin and the RAC who give out awards to deserving hotels in
the UK & Ireland.... There's something delicious cooking at Hayfield Manor
in Cork these days. Their new French chef Philippe Farineau has designed a nightly
signature menu and elevated the hotel's restaurant to one of the country's finest. ENGLAND
-- Holbeck Ghyll has been awarded a coveted Michelin Star
for the particularly fine quality of its cooking. Few restaurants ever receive
such an accolade and indeed only two other Lake District restaurants have been
honored with the award.... At Stoke Park Club, just outside of London, following

and Racquets Pavilion is set to open this spring, and promises to offer the ultimate
