AIRLINES: Air
France will be flying from the USA to Aberdeen, Scotland,
via Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris.
IRELAND:
Ireland's Waterville Golf Links embarks on a new chapter
this month when the Eddie Hackett masterpiece undergoes
some well-planned renovation by renowned golf course
architect Tom Fazio....Donagh Davern, General Manager
at Killarney Park has been voted Best Young Hospitality
Manager of 2002 in Ireland....Doonbeg Golf Club is
selected by the editors of Golf Digest as the "Best
New International Course of 2002," a further
tribute for the Greg Norman-designed Irish links that
has already received critical praise in the six months
since it opened last July.
PORTUGAL: Quinto
Do Lago has renamed their courses – Quinta Do
Lago North, formerly Quinta Do Lago Championship and
Quinta Do Lago South, formerly Ria Formosa.
SCOTLAND: The
Westin Turnberry Resort will continue to offer a complimentary
session at their Colin Montgomerie Golf School to
guests of the hotel. Half hour session are available
2 or 3 times a week to help golfers before they play
the courses....
At
The Marine Hotel, Troon, the Bodysense Leisure Club
has been completely refurbished. The Marine is continuing
their major refurbishment for the 2004 Open Championship
at Royal Troon. 16 new bedrooms and 9 refurbished
rooms were completed in December 2002. They will be
refurbishing another 25 rooms in the spring and then
the remaining bedroom stock in October... Luxury golf
resort and spa, St Andrews Bay, has been awarded five
star international status by VisitScotland (formerly
the Scottish Tourist Board). This makes it one of
only four golf resort hotels in Scotland to have received
such an accolade (the others being Gleneagles, Turnberry
and the Old Course Hotel)...
The
US HOTELS magazine has judged the Andrew Fairlie restaurant
at Gleneagles to be the best hotel restaurant in the
UK and one of the ten best in the world. You can now
experience playing their PGA Centenary Course, site

St Andrews Golf Hotel will complete a second exclusive
use suite, the PerryGolf Old Course Suite, one floor
below the existing PerryGolf Penthouse Suite. The
new suite, will feature lots of lamps and evoke a
cozy club feel. Perfect for groups utilizing the VIP
Golf Coaches... Golf View Hotel, Nairn finished their
refurbishment of the remaining 8 rooms getting the
works, along with refurbishment of all the public
areas, including a new enlarged bar.
WALES: Wales was
announced as the Undiscovered Golf Destination of
the Year for 2002 at the International Association
of Golf Tour Operators’ annual gala event, held
during the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM)
at Biarritz, France last December. The award is voted
on by members of the Golf Travel Writers Association.
PRODUCTS: SUNDERLAND OF
SCOTLAND introduced its spring line for 2003,
at the PGA Merchandise Show, featuring a range of
performance fabrics and new features in its rainwear
and windshirts. New design features include action
back pleats, open bottom with adjustable shock cord,
knife pleat backs and new colors and fabrics. Must
haves when traveling in the British Isles!
