Southwest Scotland Golf

Southerness is a wonderful addition to any itinerary in Scotland, especially utilizing our Special Air Services to access its relative remote location. But Southwest Scotland itself makes a wonderful destination for an extended golf itinerary.

Basing out of Westin’s Turnberry Resort or the PerryGolf Lodges there, the newly refurbished Marine Hotel, Troon, or the charming intimate Enterkine House, there is easily a week’s worth of championship golf in close proximity – Turnberry boasts the Open venue Ailsa course, the modern classic Kintyre, and the 9-hole Arran academy course, and anyone’s game can benefit from a stop at their Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy. Royal Troon Golf Club has two layouts, the Open venue championship course, where woman meeting the handicap requirement (there is also a handicap requirement for men) may now again also play in visitor times and the Portland course.

Home to the orginal Open Championship is the quirky and delightful Prestwick. The neighboring, often overlooked, hidden gems of the ‘Gailes’ – Western & Glasgow, and Barassie. Extended schedules in this area also allow time to play local favorites Belleisle, and Prestwick St. Nicholas.

To maximize time and experience two of Scotland’s true hidden gems, employ our special air services for a day trip, or an overnight, to Machrie and Machrihanish and their remote scenic locales. Or enjoy the ferry ride and a field trip to the island of Arran, where there are a half dozen delightful layouts with panoramic views, and the historic Shiskine, still playing at its orginal 12 holes as laid out by Willie Park.
