Day 8

Journey to golf course (20mins).

Today play Metropolitan. Rated among the very top courses in Australia, this course and Royal Melbourne were one in the same until 1901 when part of the membership favored a move to the southern sandhills while the other preferred their inner city home.  The new club was formed in 1908; tournament play began in 1930 after a series of Dr. Alister MacKenzie’s modifications. Seven Australian Opens later, along with five Australia PGAs plus a host of professional events including the World Golf Match Play Championship have defined Metropolitan as one of the best.  You’ll  notice here how the bunkers are cut into the greens which requires a hand finishing you won’t find on a handful of courses anywhere in the world.

Sightseeing Suggestion - Hunter Valley Wine Tasting

A trip to Sydney is not complete without a visit to the world-class wineries of the Hunter Valley. Leaving your hotel we travel through the historic Rocks area before crossing over the magnificent Sydney Harbour Bridge. We wind our way through the leafy Northern Suburbs, then escape through the brilliant sandstone outcrops of Ku-ring-gai National Park to reach the mighty Hawkesbury River. We stop for morning tea in the bush & then continue on to the historic township of Wollombi, famous for its local brew called Dr Jurd's Jungle Juice. We stroll through the village before departing for the Broken Back Range & climb the escarpment to Mt. View before descending into the Hunter Valley to begin our wine tasting at a few of the very special boutique wineries in the area. We chat to the owners, admire their cottage locations & then let them show off the best of their vintages.

In the foothills of the Broken Back Range, enjoy a gourmet lunch & spend the afternoon visiting some of the larger vineyards for more superb wine tasting. As the afternoon approaches return to Sydney via the scenic freeway to conclude this relaxing and enjoyable day.

Day 10

Journey to golf course (25mins).

Today play New South Wales. Designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie (whose next project happened to be Cypress Point), this course is one of the greats ranked #5 in Australia and #37 in the world.  Opened in 1928 and situated on the rugged cliffs of La Perouse, it overlooks Botany Bay at the site of Captain James Cook's 1770 landing.  The layout is framed by water on three sides and has many characteristics of links golf – undulating fairways, spectacular views and complete exposure to the elements.  NSW’s four par 3s are considered by many to be the finest collection in the country.  No. 6 at 202 yards stands out as one of the game’s great “ocean carry” par 3’s not unlike No. 16 at Cypress.

Day 11

Sightseeing Suggestion – Sydney Harbour Cruise & Opera House Tour

Enjoy a cruise on Sydney Harbour and a tour through the Sydney Opera House. Sydney Harbour is commonly referred to as the most beautiful natural harbour in the world. A large harbour with many bays, inlets and secondary harbours, it has not been built out like many of the world's great harbours. Although there are exclusive homes dotted around the water's edge, there are large tracts of parklands, reserves and gardens that balance the harbour environmentally. At completion of cruise, walk to the Sydney Opera House for a tour through one of the architectural master pieces of the century. Designed by the Danish Architect, Jorn Utzon, the first performance was in the Opera Theatre in 1973. The Opera House would be more aptly named the Sydney Performing Arts Centre as most evenings its theatres offer a combination of world class music, dance, and drama and opera performances. This 45-minute tour offers the opportunity to experience the Sydney Opera House in its daily operation, and learn about the fascinating history and architecture.
