“I visited Australia and Tasmania in February and can say without hesitation that a Sydney / Melbourne / Tasmania golf trip is among the best there is...I understand how the Old Course or Ballybunion or Royal Birkdale would come first, but once you’ve been to the UK, and you know how much you like links golf, you will find this is such a solid trip.”

Day 3

On arrival at Sydney Airport you will be met by PerryGolf personnel who will assist you with your luggage and transfer to your transportation.

Sightseeing Suggestion -- Consider enjoying a cruise on Sydney Harbour and a tour through the Sydney Opera House. Sydney Harbour is commonly referred to as the most beautiful natural harbour in the world. A large harbour with many bays, inlets and secondary harbours, it has not been built out like many of the world's great harbours. Although there are exclusive homes dotted around the water's edge, there are large tracts of parklands, reserves and gardens that balance the harbour environmentally. After the cruise, consider walking over to the Sydney Opera House for a tour through one of the architectural master pieces of the century which was designed by the Danish Architect, Jorn Utzon. The first performance was in the Opera Theatre in 1973. The Opera House would be more aptly named the Sydney Performing Arts Centre as most evenings its theatres offer a combination of world class music, dance, and drama and opera performances. This 45-minute tour offers the opportunity to experience the Sydney Opera House in its daily operation, and, learn about the fascinating history and architecture. Holes 5 and 6 will long be remembered.

Day 5

Play The Lakes. Situated in the city, it was redesigned in the 70's by Devlin & Von Hagge and is renowned for its water hazards. Eleven of the 18 holes feature water, so the route is both picturesque and challenging. It has a long history of Australian Championships and is ranked number 14 in Australia.

Day 6

Play Royal Melbourne – West. Continually rated as the number 1 golf course in Australia, Royal Melbourne has been as high as number 5 in the world. It is the most recognized golf course on the world famous Melbourne Sandbelt. The site remains one of the finest ever found in world golf, full of dramatic undulation with fertile sandy soil and a natural rugged appearance. Designed by Dr. Alister Mackenzie, the bunkering is spectacular while the rough areas around the tees and bunkers are a mix of native grasses which beautifully and naturally frame each hole, providing great definition and contrast without distracting from the strategy. The greens provide the finest putting surfaces in Australia. Large and beautifully contoured they are built to accommodate approaches from a number of angles with each progressively more difficult the further the tee shot strays from the perfect line.

Sightseeing Suggestion -- Consider touring the Queen Victoria Market, a thriving and vital place pulsating with life. The friendly competition between stallholders, and their concern for customers, is what gives the Market its Old World charm and the addictive power to draw millions of visitors each year. The vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere of this historic site has endeared the Market to Melburnians for 130 years. The Market is probably best known for its huge variety of fresh produce. Almost half of the Market area is dedicated to the sale of fresh produce, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, chicken, seafood and delicatessen products. Alternatively consider a half day city tour will help you to appreciate all that Melbourne has to offer. Visit the city’s main highlights, sample some local produce and soak in the café style culture synonymous with Melbourne. More sightseeing suggestions in Melbourne are available here.

Day 7

Play Kingston Heath. Designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie and ranked number 2 in Australia, it is one of the greats in the world. Fast, subtly breaking greens, and excellent bunkering with superbly interesting holes are the main features; plus, the fact that it caters equally for all standards of golfers.

Sightseeing Suggestion -- Yarra Valley Wine Tour. With a rich history stretching back to the first settlers, the Yarra Valley is not only one of Australia's oldest wine producing regions, but also one of the most diverse. It contains large commercial enterprises and small boutique producers. It is the home to over 40 wineries and is best known for its success with Pinot Noir, fine Chardonnays and also Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz varietals. The Yarra Valley offers a unique wine and food experience: consider enjoying a private tasting in the Trophy Room at family owned De Bortoli Winery or a visit to Domaine Chandon which is dedicated to producing quality Australian wines.

Day 8

*Charter option on a King Air is available for your time and convenience savings.

A leisurely morning and breakfast before a mid-morning checkout and drive to Melbourne Airport for your 45 minute flight over the Bass Strait to King Island, which sits between the Australian mainland and Tasmania. It is an island of approximately 1,600 (a number that varies depending on which local you ask!). Historically it has been known for its cheese and lobster…and soon to be for its golf. The principal settlement is Currie, which is positioned on the west coast of the island. A 10 minute drive from King Island Airport is the King Island Hotel, your accommodations this evening.

Play Cape Wickham. The course is situated on King Island, Tasmania right in the middle of the Bass Strait. Construction began in 2013 and finally Cape Wickham Links opened in 2015 with design credit to Mike DeVries with assistance from Planet Golf's Darius Oliver. The unique location obviously lends itself to some spectacular views but the design team have made sure that they optimize the use of the landscape. Sitting alongside Australia's tallest lighthouse, the course features eight holes that run adjacent to the Bass Strait coastline (the 11th is almost in Bass Strait!), with all holes enjoying spectacular views of the ocean. Day 9

This morning fly from King Island to Launceston (if flying on scheduled service).

Transfer to Barnbougle Dunes which is located in the sleepy holiday town of Bridport at the tip of the island state of Tasmania. Upon arrival check into your accommodation for the tonight at The Lodge at Lost Farm. Lost Farm provides stylish, suite style accommodation on course and a one minute walk from the first tee of the Lost Farm Golf Course. The open plan, hotel-style rooms provide a choice of views – from ocean vistas over Anderson Bay to views over the golf course.

Play Barnbougle Dunes. The Island state of Tasmania, a short jump from the mainland of Australia, is home to a Tom Doak & Mike Clayton course sitting at #36 in the world. Set along the beach where the roar of the ocean and a salty breeze are the norm, golfers walk amongst towering dunes with the look and feel of the classic links of Scotland and Ireland. Welcome to Barnbougle Dunes!

Day 10

Play Barnbougle Lost Farm. A wonderful Crenshaw–Coore design, Barnbougle Lost Farm opened in 2010 and features a seaside routing set among heaving dunes. But that's where the similarities end. The 480-yard, par-4 5th, which features a duneside green overlooking a river that separates Lost Farm from Barnbougle Dunes and a fairway that twists around the dune and behind it.

 After golf, fly to Melbourne.

Handicap Certificate: Most courses require visitors to be a member of a recognized golf club and to hold official handicaps, with some courses imposing a maximum handicap restriction. PerryGolf endorses this viewpoint and recommends that players travel with a valid handicap certificate from their golf club which they may be required to produce.
Golf Carts & Caddies in Australia: With the exception of Royal Melbourne, caddies (including bag carriers) are not available in Australia. A limited supply of Golf Carts are available at certain venues but may be restricted for those who have medical conditions. All golf courses have good access to pull carts. Your golf travel specialist can answer any specific questions you may have regarding caddies & carts on your tour.
