The Maritime Provinces of Canada which once resounded with the footsteps of explorers, trappers and native Americans, are now home to some of the choicest golf courses in the world.

Our golf adventure aboard Clelia II begins in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where players will test their skill at Clovelly Golf Club, the Graham Cooke designed Osprey Course is one of the best in Atlantic Canada. Continue onto Cape Breton Island on Nova Scotia for a round at the world-class Highland Links, this links-style masterpiece is famous for its “out and back” routing that melds with the jagged shores, undulating woodlands and twisting brooks. We then head for Prince Edward Island and The Links at Crowbush Cove, acknowledged by Golf Digest as Canada's Best New Course. From the Gaspe Peninsula, we navigate the historic Saguenay River en route to the French-accented cities of Montreal and Quebec City and their respective golf offerings at The Grand Vallon, set against the backdrop of Mont-Sainte-Anne and Royal Montreal Golf Club, the oldest golf club in North America, having been founded in 1873, a tough test famous for its vast putting surfaces.

This remarkable passage continues along the St. Lawrence Seaway and its seven locks that connect the Atlantic Ocean with Lake Ontario, arriving at scenic Thousand Islands and ultimately Rochester, New York. Throughout this voyage, non-golfersGet More Detailswill enjoy unforgettable excursions to pristine wildlife preserves, bustling cities and townscapes from a time when the French and the English once positioned for control of the New World.

GASPE, QUEBEC

Gaspe, on the eastern coast of the remote peninsula of the same name, is where Jacques Cartier first claimed Canada for France. From “Land’s End,” visit the National Park of Bonaventure Island and Perce Rock, rising out of the sea to a solitary height of almost 300 feet. Carved by volcanic action, Perce Rock is a continuation of the Appalachian Mountains, which extend from the peninsula to Alabama. Its neighbor, Bonaventure Island, houses a migratory bird sanctuary with the largest concentration of Northern Gannets in North America.

AT SEA

Relax aboard Clelia II and attend a lecture by one of our onboard experts as we navigate the Saguenay River. The river was an important trade route into the interior for First Nations (the aboriginal peoples of what is present-day Canada) and, during the French colonization of the Americas, was a major route for the fur trade. Bordered by steep cliffs, the waterway is home to Beluga whales, which breed in its cold waters. As we watch from the deck of Clelia II, we are likely to encounter a pod of whales.

QUEBEC CITY

Golf: Today play The Grand Vallon, 30 minutes from Quebec, the course framed against the dramatic backdrop of Mont-Sainte-Anne. Steeply undulating in places with impeccable fairways, some of which are tree lined.

Tour: Savor the old city walls, narrow cobblestoned lanes, outdoor cafes and historic battlements that make Quebec City one of the most picturesque cities in North America. The authentic, undeveloped charm led UNESCO to designate it a World Heritage Site in 1985. Discover the Upper and Lower Towns; the Citadel; the Plains of Abraham, where General Wolfe claimed the city for England in 1759; and the Place Royale.
