Australia, Tasmania & New Zealand on board Azamara Journey

15 Nights | 6 Courses | Sydney to Auckland | 19 February – 6 March 2017

Optional Golf Packages:
Barnbougle Dunes & Lost Farm | Cape Kidnappers & Kinloch

PerryGolf is proud to partner with Azamara Club Cruises for an exceptional golf and sightseeing voyage to Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand on board the outstanding Azamara Journey. It’s the perfect opportunity to leave the northern hemisphere’s winter behind for the sunshine and long daylight hours of a southern hemisphere summer!

Our itinerary begins in Sydney, Australia, and concludes in Auckland, New Zealand.  Sydney has it all; a stunning harbor, opera house, botanic gardens, great shopping and nightlife.  Discover the breathtaking coastlines, forests and famous wineries of Melbourne.  A morning at the famous penal colony at Port Arthur is followed by Hobart, a lively food-and-wine destination with a colorful waterfront and markets. In New Zealand, sail scenic Milford Sound and the coastline of this spectacular south coast. Enjoy the wine country of Marlborough and Hawke’s Bay.  Experience art deco tours, Tauranga’s kiwi farms and Rotorua’s Maori culture and geothermal springs.  This really is a voyage offering great variety and spectacular scenery in abundance.

Our 6 course golf lineup is excellently well balanced, and will not disappoint.  It includes play on some of the best courses in Australia & New Zealand, coupled with some of the most spectacular venues.  Courses include Sydney’s prestigious Lakes Golf Club, Yarra Yarra in Melbourne’s renowned Sandbelt, Tasmania Golf Club, Shirley Links at Christchurch, Chisholm Park at Dunedin, and astounding Cape KidnappersOf course, PerryGolf’s cruise staff will be on board and ashore to oversee all aspects of your golf experience from daily pairings to the handling of your golf clubs.

We also offer an option of playing the remote but world renowned and spectacular Barnbougle Dunes & Lost Farm (respectively world #11 and world #23 by Golf Digest) on the north coast of Tasmania, including an overnight stay in their onsite cottage accommodations. A similar option is offered at the world class and highly photographed Cape Kidnappers, considered the #1 course in New Zealand (world #22 by Golf Digest), which is played along with The Kinloch, a venue challenging very seriously for the #1 New Zealand berth. Both options involve an easy one night stay off ship with transportation and all arrangements fully managed by PerryGolf.

Many guests are golfing couples but an equal number are Golfers travelling with a Non-Golfing spouse who are exceptionally well catered to as well.  In addition to the fabulous on board facilities which all will enjoy during our “sea time” as we cross the Tasman Sea, a wide selection of Azamara Land Discoveries® are offered in each port, allowing guests to explore as much or as little of the culture and countryside as they prefer. Azamara distinguishes itself as a specialist for “destination immersion” by providing more time in port than other major cruise lines.

On board, guests are absolutely spoiled. The 690-passenger (410 crew) Journey is large enough to provide every comfort and amenity; outstanding restaurants and bars, an exceptional full service spa, an excellent variety of evening entertainment. Yet she is small enough to provide an intimate, clubhouse style experience while comfortably navigating smaller harbours. In addition to “normal” cruise features, all soft drinks, specialty coffees, boutique daily wines, and a choice of select standard beers and cocktails are inclusive within the cruise fare, as are all gratuities.

Leave winter behind and join us on this magical adventure in the long daylight hours of the southern hemisphere!

GOLF: The Lakes is one of Australia's pre-eminent private clubs and one of the leading major tournament venues in Australia having most recently hosted the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Men's Australian Opens. There is no shortage of red stakes on this extraordinary layout beginning with the opening hole then punctuated by the three back nine par fives. In the 1998 Greg Norman Classic, The Shark splashed three long irons into the lake fronting the 14th green on his way to a twelve. The famous double water carry on 17 has defined it as one of the iconic par fives in Australian golf. We are delighted to provide this opportunity to play one of Australia's most respected layouts enjoyed in a serene environment on outstandingly presented playing surfaces.

GOLF: Yara Yarra Golf Club was established in 1898 and is one of Melbourne’s most prestigious clubs. It was not until 1927 that they moved to their current location, becoming one of Melbourne’s world renowned Sandbelt courses. Course designer Alex Russell was an Australian Open Champion who collaborated with Alistair MacKenze on a number of designs. His legacy is a classic design from the golden era that members have been astute enough to preserve in almost in its entirety. Over the years it has played host to many of the world’s best players. Like all great golf courses, it has stood the test of time.

24 FEBRUARY, FRIDAY: PORT ARTHUR, TASMANIA, (7:00AM / 1:00PM) HOBART, TASMANIA (6:30PM / IN PORT)

Port Arthur is located on the Tasman Peninsula, slightly southeast of the state capital of Hobart.  Its arresting history forms part of the Australian Convict Sites, which has earned a UNESCO World Heritage designation. Visit the 18th- and 19th-century structures built within the British Empire, which now serve as the best surviving examples of Australia’s rich history of its captive population and their labor, which produced much of this architecture. Tour The Coal Mines Historic Site, Tasmania’s first operational mine, and visit the ruins of the buildings where the workers and their families once lived.

Enjoy it on your own arrangements or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

Port Explorer Guide – Port Arthur

GOLF: Tasmania Golf Club was born out of Lindisfarne Golf Club which was formed in 1925 and located on Hobart’s eastern shore but where the post-war building boom and demand for suburban land caused the State Government to compulsorily acquire that course in the late 1960s.  A new site was acquired and Tasmania Golf Club was opened for play in 1971 by the State Governor Sir Edric Bastyan.  Today, Tasmania Golf Club is widely regarded as the best golf course layout in southern Tasmania, second only to Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links as the most spectacular golf course in the State.

Golfers playing Tasmania Golf Club disembark in Port Arthur and rejoin in Hobart later on the same day following play.

1 MARCH, WEDNESDAY: DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND (10:00AM / 7:00PM)

Dunedin is located on the southwest coast of the South Island of New Zealand, bordered by the Tasman Sea. The gold rush in the early 1860s made it the richest province in the country, and brought people from far and wide in search of wealth. Settled by Scotland, a statue of the poet Robbie Burns looks over the Octagon in the city’s center. Take a guided tour around the city and view the Flemish architecture and the Otago Peninsula.  Stroll along one of the many beautiful, white sandy beaches. View some of the wildlife unique to the area, like the Northern Royal Albatross, the Little Blue Penguin, and the Kiwi.  Learn more about local culture at Toitū Otago Settlers Museum, where you’ll discover the story of the people who settled here.

Enjoy it on your own arrangements or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

GOLF: Chisholm Park Golf Club, located just outside Dunedin, is a genuine links course in the truest sense of the word, which may well be considered the hidden gem of this golf voyage.  Developed on reserve land in the 1930s, several of its holes occupy a magnificent headland wedged between two beaches.  It is hole #9 which guests tend to remember most keenly with the tee clinging to the edge of a huge precipice high over picturesque Tomahawk Beach.  The playability and character of the holes, and amazing scenery over the Pacific Ocean and neighbouring beaches make it a very special experience.  The links have previously hosted the New Zealand Amateur Championship in 2003, along with three Australasian PGA Tour Events.

2 MARCH, THURSDAY: AKAROA, NEW ZEALAND (7:30AM / 6:00PM)

Akaroa is named after the Māori word for “Long Harbor”, and is a village situated in the heart of an ancient volcano on the South Island of New Zealand.  It’s waters are home to the world’s smallest and rarest dolphin, the Hector’s Dolphin, and it is a haven for animal lovers.  Spot New Zealand fur seals, little blue penguins, and various sea life. Take a tour of an Alpaca farm and get up close and personal with the unique animals. View the Colonial architecture, crafts, and cafés as you explore the Outer Bays. For some great surf, visit Le Bons Bay or Okains Bay beaches. The drama of the landscape allows you to slow down to take it all in.

Enjoy it on your own arrangements or via Azamara Land Discoveries®.

GOLF: Christchurch Golf Club has a proud history that dates back to 1873. The club is the second oldest in New Zealand and the fifth oldest outside the United Kingdom. Its Shirley Links course has held numerous New Zealand Open and Amateur Championships. In 1990 it hosted the World Amateur Team Championship.  The course is renowned world-wide as a challenging championship course of the highest quality which offers a fair test of golf for both club and professional golfer.  The Club Patron is former Club Champion Sir Bob Charles, New Zealand’s most successful professional golfer, best known for winning the 1963 British Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes, England.

3 MARCH, FRIDAY: NAPIER, NEW ZEALAND (5:00PM / OVERNIGHT)

Morning & afternoon at sea.

Napier is located in Hawke’s Bay on the eastern coast of the North Island.   It has a population of 60,000 and together with its sister city Hastings, is referred to as one of “The Bay Cities.”  Its exceptional concentration of 1930s Art Deco architecture is symptomatic of the city having been razed by the 1931 Hawke’s Bay earthquake. Make a pilgrimage to Pania of the Reef, a statue of a figure of Māori mythology, and one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country. Take a guided walk around the city, or visit the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers. Spend a day testing out the local vineyards, or stop by the Napier farmers’ market for fresh artisan products.
