Our last day there started out with sunshine and ended up with fog on the last 4 holes. We had some great days but that one (Old Course) was the icing on the cake. Started out at Tom Morris shop, Grand Opening. We left there and met a member at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club who invited us in. What a treat. Our day had been made, or so we thought. What can you say about the Old Course, unless you have experienced it for yourself no words can do it justice. None of this would have been possible without PerryGolf and more importantly their employees and the friendly folks in St. Andrews. Thanks again for making our trip run so smooth and seamless.

The trip was indeed enjoyable and memorable. I found all the golf courses fantastic, among the best I have ever played. We were unsure at the beginning of our trip whether our interest would be sustained for all the time programmed for us in the Shamwari Game Reserve, but in fact it was. Spending 7-8 hours per day over three days seeing game was fully absorbing, largely because the reserve is a very professionally managed operation.

The hotels were all exceptionally good, but Steenberg was the best because of the beautiful setting, the marvellously restored 17th and 18th century Dutch buildings, and the presence of vineyards and winery as well as golf course.

Gordon Turner was an excellent representative – PerryGolf is fortunate to have such a good representative in Cape Town. Gordon visited with us twice whilst we were in the Cape Town area and he was constantly in touch with our driver to ensure that we were satisfied – which we were.

We played 10 rounds of golf on 7 different golf courses all of which were in good shape and wonderful challenges – in short well done.

Gordon’s choice of the Shamwari Reserve and in particular the lodge we stayed at was brilliant. He even arranged for me to play golf if I had found the game drives and the safari culture a little too touristy – quite to my amazement, I found the whole experience, including the extra day we stayed at Eagle’s Crag, a learning occasion of a life time.

Our drivers were well informed and very helpful throughout our journey. Raymond, at Little Jock, went out of his way to drive us all day to different parts of Kruger. It was a very big concession for him since it was tiring. Trevor was full of interesting information on a number of subjects. We had the advantage of two helpful leaders in Cape Town since Gordon Turner joined us for a few events. Wendell was a thoughtful and helpful driver. All in all, our trip was very well planned and executed. The variety of things to do made the trip better than I could imagine. Our driver, Michael Anderson, was absolutely terrific. I have taken “guides” on other trips to Europe and it always makes the trips when you don’t have to worry about details upon your arrival such as tee times, directions, reservations, etc. and Mike was among the best I’ve ever had. He not only was on-time and available for any and all requests and scheduled activities, but he anticipated potential problems/delays and made their resolution seamless.
