The official rankings by the US based GOLF MAGAZINE were released this week on the ‘front9′ app with Castle Stuart being the highest-ranking debut on the World list. Following on from its success as host venue to the recently played Barclays Scottish Open, Castle Stuart’s reputation continues to spread worldwide. Perfect location and the courses in the highlands are a must play on a trip to North of Scotland; Royal Dornoch, Castle Stuart and Nairn are some of many worth the trip to the area.

The 2012 Curtis Cup will be held at Nairn Golf Club on the 125th anniversary of the founding of the club. The course, which has hosted a number of important tournaments over the years, including the 1999 Walker Cup and the Scottish Amateur Championships, will be the most northerly venue yet.
The announcement will provide another boost to the Highlands, which over the past two years has increased in popularity with overseas visitors after the opening of the fantastic Castle Stuart Golf Links which is being tipped to be the next host of the European Tour’s Scottish Open once Loch Lomond ceases to become host venue. When you add these two fantastic courses to Royal Dornoch, which is in the top 20 world rankings, it gives the area a huge appeal to all golfers.

At the recent Golf Tourism Scotland awards ceremony, The Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch was named the ‘Hotel of the Year’ in the large hotel category. After some extensive refurbishment and under new ownership, the hotel re-opened in April 2010. Overlooking the first tee at Royal Dornoch Golf Club, the hotel is ideally located for golf in the Highlands. Castle Stuart, which runs along the banks of the Moray Firth in the Scottish Highlands, was recently voted the best new overseas destination by Golf Digest. The course, which was co-designed by Mark Parsinen (Kingsbarns) and American architect Gil Hanse (Craighead Links at Crail), opened in 2009 and it has already taken its place amongst Scotland’s greats. Not only has it made the Highlands a much more appealing destination, but Scotland as a whole. With Royal Dornoch (Scotland’s #3 course) and Nairn (#14) its best and closest neighbours, 3 or 4 nights in the Inverness area make for a great addition to any Scotland tour.

The Kings Club at the Kingsmills Hotel
The Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness is the perfect place to be based when playing the three great courses of the Scottish Highlands, Royal Dornoch, Nairn and Castle Stuart. The hotel has recently added The Kings Club, which is a separate building around a hundred yards from the main hotel. It is perfect for couples and groups of guys alike with luxurious and spacious bedrooms decorated in tasteful warm colours. All of the rooms are identical and all have either a balcony or a patio depending on which floor they are on.
