I received in today’s mail a summary from Tom Doak’s office of their design and potential design jobs in 2012.
Selfishly from an international travel perspective the future is bright;
Melbourne, Australia – Reconstruction work on East Course at Royal Melbourne
Rio de Janiero, Brazil – Bidding on 2016 Olympic golf venue…thankfully that will not be a political decision!
Hainan Island, China – New golf course on an island in the midst of a river, with a second course starting in late spring/early summer

It was announced on Tuesday that the biggest event in golf, the Ryder Cup, will be contested in France in 2018. This is a historic announcement as it is only the second time the Ryder Cup Matches will be played in Continental Europe. Le Golf National beat off strong opposition from courses in Germany, Holland, Portugal and Spain; but the decision was well-received by all players on the European Tour.
Le Golf National has been home to The French Open – one of the biggest tournaments on the European Tour – for the last 10 years and it is a course which features in most of our PerryGolf trips to France.

Breathe Deep and Swing Away in Provence
Brian McCallenTheAPosition
Provence. A magical precinct made all-too-famous by Peter Mayle’s books, yet still the essence of the south of France. I was last there on a beautiful September day several years ago, but the best time to go is spring, when the land yields rich scents of rosemary, thyme and wild lavender, with a hint of cypress and pine. All you have to do is breathe.

Gourmet Golf and L’art de Vivre in Bordeaux
If ever a nation has mastered the art of living well, it’s the French. Think champagne, foie gras, haute couture, fairy-tale castles and you think of France, right? But did you know that France also has 600 golf courses? That’s more than the rest of continental Europe put together. You don’t have to parler Français. A green is …

Bordeaux in France is a popular area for golf, wine and food.
Les Sources de Caudalie is a luxury hotel located in the heart of renowned vineyards and offers an interesting spa treatment for those seeking something a little different; “Vinotherapie”. This original and exclusive skin care is based on a combination of hot natural water and the health and beauty enhancing properties of grapes and wines. Treatments include red wine bath, barrel bath, exhilarating massages, wine and honey wrap, water jet shower, spa bath with jet stream and Turkish bath and these can be incorporated into your tour cost. The perfect way to pass the day and relax during your vacation.

A popular region to visit in France is Bordeaux; with great golf courses like Medoc Golf Course, Chateau des Vigiers, Relais and Relais de Margaux you can see why it’s a firm favourite. Personally, the main reason for me to visit the region should be for the wine!!!
There are excellent vineyards in the St. Emilion and the Médoc areas – 92 in total all offering wine tastings and tours. The wine tastings can last from 2 hours onwards and can easily be fit in around your golf and sightseeing schedule. Bordeaux city itself is gorgeous, with wide boulevards, stunning architecture and beautiful parks.
