Champions Challenge 2010

by PerryGolf Staff on June 24, 2010

This year’s Champions Challenge, a four-hole competition for past winners on the day before the British Open, has twenty-eight confirmed entries.  These include Seve Ballesteros who, despite the fact that he is still convalescing, is really looking forward to playing and thinks he will do okay.  Last year’s winner Stewart Cink will be there along with recent winners Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington.

Seven teams of four will battle it out for the £50,000 prize which will then be donated to a charity chosen by the winners.  The event is part of the 150th Anniversary celebrations at St. Andrews and is sure to draw a huge crowd.

The Kittocks Course at Fairmont, St. Andrews

The Kittocks Course at Fairmont, St. Andrews

The Fairmont Hotel in St. Andrews is a 5* Resort on the outskirts of one of the most famous towns in the world.  The hotel is situated about 2 miles outside of the town centre and offers views over St. Andrews Bay and the medieval skyline.  It is also home to 2 championship golf courses; The Kittocks and The Torrance.  Both courses are very enjoyable and are worthy inclusions in any schedule based in and around St. Andrews.  Even if you don’t happen to be staying at The Fairmont, these courses are worth considering.

Royal Liverpool to Host the 2014 Open Championship

by Colin Dalgleish on February 18, 2010

The R&A have announced that Royal Liverpool Golf Club will host The Open Championship in 2014.  It will be the 12th time the Hoylake links has hosted golf’s oldest Major.

It has always been one of the finest and most enjoyable venues on the Lancashire coast, however during an almost 40 year absence from the British Open rota between 1967 when Argentinean Roberto De Vicenzo became the first South American to win a Major, and 2006 when Tiger Woods became a back-to-back Open Champion, it arguably did not receive the attention of the golfing world which it deserved.  It has certainly been a consistent favorite with PerryGolf clients, and indeed we have taken passengers here on our golf cruises to enjoy this great links course on a number of occasions.

Snow and Ice will not hamper the condition of the Old Course

by PerryGolf Staff on January 12, 2010

Old Course, St. Andrews

Old Course, St. Andrews

Spent the day in St. Andrews yesterday, and while Scotland has seen lots of snow and sub-zero temperatures, I’m pleased to say the St. Andrews Links Trust are constantly reviewing the conditions on the Old Course – mindful of the British Open being played there in July this year. Since Sunday there has been enough thaw to melt most of the snow, however the ice is the biggest worry as it can be so damaging to the grass. Apparently the Links have been taking advice from experts worldwide to ensure they treat the ice to have it thaw as quickly as possible. You can watch the progress of winter on the live webcam .

Does Tiger impact golf travel?

by Gordon Dalgleish on December 31, 2009

Recently I have been asked a number of times by different friends and contacts the impact that the Tiger situation will have on golf travel. Possibly I am not insightful enough to appreciate the nuance of it all but with respect to international golf travel, I foresee little impact. Curiously a number of friends who are Club golf professionals have indicated that members have said to them that spouses have begun to question proposed trips to Las Vegas. Right or wrong, Las Vegas seems to have drawn another bad hand in golf circles after the beating it took at the hands of the President Obama earlier this year.
