PerryGolf Co-Founder, Colin Dalgleish, receives Special Recognition Award at the 2015 Scottish Golf Tourism Awards

At the 2015 Scottish Golf Tourism Awards, a ‘Special Recognition Award’ was presented to former Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup captain Colin Dalgleish for his services to the Scottish golf tourism industry through his company, PerryGolf. Colin Montgomerie, Matt Kuchar and Patrick Elsmie were amongst those who paid tribute to the Helensburgh man. Watch their video messages in this article.

Born in Old Kilpatrick in 1960, Colin Dalgleish has lived in Helensburgh, Scotland since he was four years old – took up golf at the age of nine, and has visited almost all corners of the globe throughout his career.

He enjoyed a successful amateur career at boys, youths and senior level including a win in the 1981 Scottish Amateur Championship. He finished his career on the amateur scene with his appointment as Great Britain & Ireland Captain for the Walker Cup matches in 2007 and 2009.

The former Hermitage Academy pupil was one of the first British golfers to take up a university golf scholarship in the United States in 1978, where he attended Ohio State University, where former students and golf team members included Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf.

After playing alongside names such as John Cook and Joey Sindelar, he returned home to become the first sports bursar at Stirling University, from where he graduated with a BA in Accountancy. He is a member of the university’s Hall of Fame.

Putting his playing career to the side, he put his business acumen to good use in 1984 when he co-founded PerryGolf with his brother Gordon. Back then, golfers were largely left to their own devices when arranging golf trips. The company was among the first to provide a full-time staff of highly knowledgeable golf travel specialists who acted on the client’s behalf.

The company has firmly established itself as one of the leading providers of luxury golf holidays to a number of destinations around the world. They have offices in Helensburgh, Scotland; North Carolina, USA; and Cape Town, South Africa – the sky, it seems, is the limit.

This year at the 2015 Scottish Golf Tourism Awards it was with great pleasure that Mike Cantlay – Chairman of VisitScotland – presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Colin Dalgleish.
